The day before ST ends the Jays have agreed on a contract extension for 5 years.

Jays apparently made an offer to Vladdy before the season begins.

Sounds like there's still a gap, but if it's a smaller gap than before then that's promising.

Whoever signs him absolutely will overpay, but at the same time, Jays aren't in a position to let him walk either. Fans are smart enough to know if he leaves its not because he doesn't want to be here (unlike a number of guys who have left different teams over the years here), so the blame is fully on management, and fans will show their displeasure in bad tv ratings and poor ticket sales.
