re: Strasburg Signs for Record $15.1 Million

I think a lot more of it has to deal with Boras controlling most of it and then getting into his head.. This guy should know what it is like to be a complete nobody and barely making the baseball team in the first place.

Where is the report he isn't signing because he doesn't like the Nats?

re: Strasburg Signs for Record $15.1 Million

I don't think the story really means much, this is what Boras does. He did the same thing with Dice-K. He's trying to make it seem like Strasburg has all these other options and would be fine waiting until next year. He's hoping the Nationals will panic and overpay. In reality, Strasburg already has about as much hype as someone could possibly have. Going to Japan or pitching in independent ball is not going to increase his value, he'd only be risking injury. And he's not a high school kid who is looking at either 3 years in college or 3 years in the minors. He's ready to start his career.

It will probably go down to the wire, but I'd be shocked if a deal doesn't get done. Makes no sense for Strasburg to not sign, he'll get a lot, but he's not going to hold out for something ridiculous. And I doubt the Nationals would have drafted him if they weren't going to make a legitimate effort to sign him.

The Nationals will (and should) offer Strasburg the highest contract ever given a draftee. If Boras does not agree to it then I can't fault the team. Fifty million is stupid and if Strasburg turns down say 20 million then that says a lot about his character. Anyways, I expect this to get done but at the midnight hour.

Could you imagine next year's draft class with Strasburg and Harper?

... and the Nats having the #1 and #2 pick. That'd be a nightmare.

I agree with everything you said up there NYJets.

This is going to continue to get more ridiculous every year until baseball does something to revamp the draft, making it world-wide to go along with some type of salary scale.
