Re: 2012-13 Hot Stove League Thread

Mike Cormack wrote an article today about places he thinks J.P. Arencibia could go... included Rays, Rangers, White Sox, Mariners, Cubs and Mets as possible fits. If we do JPA for Neise I'm gonna be unhappy.

I'd like a rotation of Morrow,Marcum,Romero,McCarthy and someone else. If JP does get traded, he could possibly be traded for that other SP. Imagine someone like McCarthy being a 5th starter on this rotation. Talk about a deep rotation! I think people are looking too much into Romeros 1 bad season this past year.

I'm guessing asking for a guy like Matt Harvey from the Mets would be asking too much? He's a top 100 prospect and ERA under 3 in 10 games started for Mets in 2012.

I think Romero will bounce back but we can't have so many questions. Morrow, Marcum, McCarthy, all injury prone. Romero may not bounce back. Happ may not pitch well in the East. Alvarez may not progress at the MLB level. We need to get people who are proven and less injury prone.

That's much, much too much to ask for a .240/25 HR catcher with slightly below average defence. But mostly because I'm quite high Harvey.

I think Arencibia and Escobar could be two parts (with two good prospects added in) to a James Shields/Jeremy Hellickson trade, but the prospects would have to be good. Very good. Arencibia + Escobar + Gose/Rasmus + P prospect (John Stilson?) would be something like the package.

Re: 2012-13 Hot Stove League Thread

Morrow started 25+ games in 2/3 seasons he was with us. Pitchers are bound to get injured, but if we can have him out there, starting 25+ games a season, that's a good number.

Marcum isn't injury prone is he? Last year, just like Morrow, he started 21 games, but he had 2 straight seasons before that with 30+ games started, and the 2 seasons before that, of 25+ games started per season.

So don't get how starting at least 25/33 games on a consistent basis is really that much of a concern.

McCarthy could be an injury risk, but he was just the easiest name I could think of that we could get, of all good SP available.

Anyone who's had Tommy John, had two injuries last year, and had reported issues (although Jeff Blair may just be a moron) scares me.

Morrow's had injuries every year he's been here.. but it was an oblique injury this year and his game versus the Twins was just dominating so I'm not worried.

Scott Feldman is pretty much a Brandon McCarthy-lite.

Atlanta rejected an Olt for Simmons swap.

DKnobler‏@DKnobler
Rangers wanted Upton enough that they tried to trade Olt for ATL’s Simmons (who AZ wants). Braves wouldn’t do it, tho.
