A guy like Gallo would look rather terrible in the postseason IMO. Sure, what he does is great over the course of the regular year but you HAVE to hit with some kind of consistency.

I dunno, you can't just pull the plug on Chapman just like that. Every closer has a stretch where they don't look so great and has to figure things out on the mound. It's happened to Roberto Osuna here in Toronto and it usually happens to every elite closer at some point in their careers. Even Craig Kimbrel had a period where he was in the woods so to speak (though still put up gonzo numbers) when he was in San Diego.

It's going to be interesting to see how two teams who were supposed to be close to automatic playoff teams (at least the Cubs for sure) do against one another when the Jays visit Wrigley.

I mean that's fine, but we've got 2 other dudes (maybe 3) that could get the job done right now. We don't have time to waste. He can figure it out in the 7th.

They were discussing how large of a contract Arenado would get as a free agent next year...he would be a fool to leave Coors.
Lots of evidence that Coors hurts road performance, so I wouldn't use home/road splits to judge Colorado hitters.

Plenty of high-payroll teams in baseball would love Arenado to play 3B for them, so they'll make it worth his while to leave Coors.

Why can't you demote him? Girardi had no problem kicking Ellsbury to the curb, and he's making more money annually.

Explain this for me...and I'll have to check out this evidence. Of course Coors will hurt road performance...but would you agree that his splits are pretty extreme? I think he'll really take a hit if he leaves Coors.

While it's not likely you could end up with a Drew Storen situation where you demote the guy to setup or 7th inning work and it wrecks him emotionally. I'd say give him another shot or two. If he blows another save than yeah, maybe you might have to do that but give him a little time to work it out.

Re: 8/14 - 8/27 Game Discussion Thread

Matt Carpenter just got thrown out at home on a single. Why is that notable? Because he was on 3rd when the play started...Pham hit a sinking liner to center and Carpenter went back to tag up. The ball one hopped in front of JBJ and Bradley gunned him out by 10'.

I have NEVER seen a player thrown out at home on a single like that...

Well that's because JBJ is no ordinary player.
