But that's one of the reasons why Houston won last year. Giles, Devenski, and Harris were great in the regular season, trash in the playoffs, and eventually Hinch went to converted starters like Peacock, McCullers, and Morton to pitch in high-leverage situations as much as possible. "Sticking with his guys" would've cost Hinch and the Astros a title. Quality position players and starters going through a bad stretch? Yes, you're more likely to ride them out, because they have much more of a track record to predict future performance on (and there are often financial/contract issues that come into play). Relievers? Most relievers are so inconsistent from season to season and pitch so few innings that it's often difficult to tell if the guy's actually good or just a rando who had a good 50-inning stretch. I'm not pledging undying loyalty to any reliever whose name isn't Mariano Rivera.

Re: 2018 NLCS: Milwaukee Brewers vs Los Angeles Dodgers

Jeffress was really good from 2014-16 though, so he has the track record. And the alternatives (Knebel, Woodruff, etc.) are also "fickle" relievers with spotty/limited track records. 2017 Houston had a deep starting rotation and could afford to use them to plug in the holes that the bullpen couldn't. If Counsell had a Morton or McCullers available to pitch, he might have opted to use them. Instead, he has guys like Junior Guerra and Gio Gonzalez.

Again, it's worth mentioning the Brewers were already losing when Jeffress gave up that HR; Bellinger's HR in the 2nd inning off Chacin gave the Dodgers the lead for good. They're going to be watching the rest of the playoffs from home because the future NL MVP went 4 for 30 something in the series.

Trying to come back from 2-1 is better than coming down from 5-1 because the guy you put in that even the love child of Helen Keller and Ray Charles can see has been a disaster in the playoffs gave up 3 completely obvious, unnecessary runs.

The offense failed. Both offenses failed. The Dodgers offense was marginally better which was the difference. Both teams were, quite frankly, offensive to watch. This was one of the worst, difficult-to-watch 7 game series I've ever seen.

That doesn't absolve Craig Counsell of his Jeremy Jeffress fetish. Period.

About Yelich, yes he was bad this series... But he did put up the first run of todays game and would've tied the game if not for Chris Taylor. The offense around him didnt get the job done (in about 5 innings, the game was over after they went down 5-1.) so Yelich did his part tonight and the offense had chances, made more difficult by CC insisting the power bats drive in runs from doubles and dingers instead of manufacturing runs.

And about Jeffress... Hader, Knebel, and Jeffress were all even coming into the playoffs. Literally all three were even in the eyes of the fanbase's confidence in them. After the NLDS, NOBODY had ANY faith in Jeffress because he was bad in EVERY SINGLE APPEARANCE while Hader and Knebel were good. After 6 games of this series it was made even more apparent. The track record from this postseason said Jeffress was AWFUL while Hader and Knebel were to go-to's. Hader had to be put in first to all but assure a close game. But in the eyes of everyone but CC, putting in Jeffress in a 1 run game was the worst move you could've possibly have made. And after that 3 run shot, the game was over and morale was so low that missed chances dont even count at that point.

Dodgers scored 5 runs, 3 because of Jeffress, which fits the rest of his 2018 playoffs. Switch Jeffress with Knebel or Burnes (who didn't pitch) and its most likely still only 2 runs for LA after 6, maybe 7, maybe even 8, by which point the offense probably would've done something considering the offensive showing from Game 6. Sorry, but it was still anyone's ballgame when Jeffress came in, Jeffress left once the game was all but over, because of him, and he went into a high leverage situation even with the terrible outings of every postseason appearance before that.

Jeffress was the main reason we lost.

Jeffress was the main reason we lost and the lack of hitting.[/QUOTE]

There, I added to your line.

Jeffress was as bad as the hitting all series long except for game 6.
