Re: 5/30 - 6/12 Game Discussion Thread

If the end goal is making baseball more popular, then giving good teams a more realistic chance to make the playoffs will obviously help that goal.

You're more likely to get (casual) fans interested, especially later in the season, if the team has a shot at the playoffs rather than being 5 games back of a 1 game play in.

Even if that team still doesn't make it, if just the extra hope/excitement of possibly making it could put a few hundred or thousand more people in a stadium, then its worth it from a bigger point of view.

Sounds as though Robinson Cano's time in San Diego is coming to a close. He's expected to be optioned to Triple A tomorrow in which its expected Cano will decline the move and become a free agent.

And to answer your question, let's look at last year's Braves / Brewers series. I dont think anyone thought Atlanta was going to run the table on the whole bracket, but I think most people definitely expected them to beat Milwaukee, regardless of the fact that the Brewers had home field. Their contact hitters were not a good matchup for Atlanta's power bats
exactly the covid playoffs were a joke Houston made it with 29 wins and the marlins lets face it if it wasn't for a 60 game season and 14 teams in the playoffs had a 0% chance of making the playoffs that was a pure fluke and luck and this is what will happen with 14 teams one team might get hot and have a good runin September and make it with 80 wins.

The Pirates actually swept the Dodgers.

Good to see Gleyber has regained his power stroke. 9 HRs all of last year. He already has 10 in the beginning of June.

Jays sweep another series!

8 in a row they've won!

The AL standings right now could lead to an interesting debate about the playoff format. Similar to the NFL debate.

What if the top WC team is better than the worst division winner? In the NBA, division winners mean nothing. All other sports it guarantees a better 1st round matchup.

If season ended today, the Rays as the #2WC team would finish with a better record than the Twins, the #3 seed in the AL because of winning the division. So the WC matchup is really 5v6 and 3v4

And after playing 162 games in a tougher division and finishing with a better record, you get the beautiful reward of playing on the road.
