NBA Lives Goes Online
EA Sports says yes to PS2 Internet basketball.

July 17, 2002 - After paying a visit to EA Sports home office this afternoon, we were pleased to learn that NBA Live 2003 has been secretly tooled to include online play for its release in late October. While its feature set won't be overly robust, the announcement should still be a pleasing one for online anxious videogamers.

For the curious, there will only be two online modes available: A five-on-five exhibition game (one player per machine), and roster update. The former option really impressed us, as we tussled with producers from Electronic Arts in Vancouver, Canada over a broadband connection without a single hiccup in the line. (Spanking them two games to zero we might add!). While the latter choice allows for spot-on roster replacements once a month throughout the season; dial-up service via analog modem was also confirmed.

Interestingly enough however, the PlayStation 2 version of the game will be the only rev that takes advantage of these features, as both the Xbox and GameCube incarnations are limited to hotseat play only (with the possibility of incremental roster updates for Microsoft's green machine).

We'll return with more on this interesting development, as information allows.

Looks like I'll be getting NBA 2K3 or Inside Drive. EA just won't use Xbox Live, will they?

Isnt EA trying to get their own online thing going? If so why would they put their games on XBOX Live?

i don't understand what EA has against xbox live, it seems to me if they put that in, they'd have alot of the box market cornered... i was planning on getting 2k3 anywayz, this just pushes me more that way, unless live is really as improved as they claim, i might get both.
