Re: Curry having a bad year?
Kept hoping for his shooting to go back at least to his career averages, if not at the level of the MVP years.
If anything, the numbers are going the other way. Now it appears KD will be out for an extended period at least. If he was going to turn it on, now is the time.
But I worry that he won't be able to. Just watching him play, he's not as aggressive and just doesn't seem to have the same shot-making abilities off the dribble.
Where he used to attack big men on switches every time, now he passes the ball. A couple of times, he had Gortat on him from the perimeter including one possession in crunch time. He dribbled a few times, really couldn't get open and then passed the ball.
In the MVP years, he'd get his shot off in such situations with a couple of dribbles or go by the big man. He's simply not creating separation off his handle the way he used to.
One move was to dribble hard, usually in transition, then do a between the leg dribble just outside the arc and instantly do a behind the back dribble from left to right and then launch a 3 with that quick release.
Not only is he not trying such moves that much, which shows lateral quickness, when he does try them, he usually doesn't hit the shot.
Maybe the MVP years were his peak and we'll never see that form again. If he isn't able to do it now with KD down, you have to assume he can't do that kind of shotmaking ever again.
He could still be a lethal shooter if open. Teams are still aggressively trapping him. But Warriors fans have to hope the decline won't be too steep.
