Re: Rookie salary cap

Salary slotting in the NFL is long, long overdue.

Re: Rookie salary cap

Apparently Kevin Mawae is in favour of salary slotting for rookies so I can see this happening if the owners insist on it.

Agreed.

Slotting similar to the NBA would be what I want, but it'd be difficult with the differences in positions.

Every position in the NBA is basically the same. They all have the same objective and fairly similar skill sets. Basically, no one position is more important than the others. In the NFL, however, most of the positions differ so much.

You might have to have a certain salary slotting for different positions groupings (in no particular order):
QB
RB/WR
OL/TE
DL
LB
DB
K/P

I feel a QB should be paid more than an OL, DL, LB, DB, and K/P... there's just so much more pressure and so much higher expectations on QBs.

(and, for what it's worth, I was a offensive and defensive lineman for 10 years in youth football and high school... I understand the importance of the positions.)

I don't think it would be too difficult, the average salary for each position could be used to alter the player's base salary for their draft slot.

That makes sense.

Re: Rookie salary cap

They should've started discussing this idea(in case they haven't before)the minute Reggie Bush, Mario Williams, and Vince Young signed their contracts.
