I'm happy that the Lions are rid of the menace that is Millen. I heard Bill Ford's comments and I think we need ol' Wlliam Clay Ford to become incapacitated because the son actually has a knack for football and PR as well.

Wonder who they'll bring in for the long term now?

Ironicly, Harrington got cut just a week after signing w/the Saints. Symentry.

Well technically, the Lions were the '90s version of Indy before ex-head coach Bobby Ross had arrived. (The brief era when Tom Moore was offensive coordinator here in Detroit.) At least the '95 Lions were.

The Lions were Indy? The Lions couldn't even win playoff games much less get to the NFC Championship most of the time. Although interestingly enough, their best chance was in '91 when they got killed by the Redskins in the NFC Championship game. I wonder how that game would've gone if they played in Detroit instead of DC.

A Lions/Bills Super Bowl would've been very interesting.

Putting Mike Brown and Al Davis in the same sentence is an insult to Bengals fans. At least Al Davis tries to field a competitive team. Since 1990 the Bengals have been the pinnacle of ineptitude.

Don't forget that during this time the Lions had to contend with the big 3 NFC juggernauts in Dallas, San Francisco and Green Bay. No other team really had success against any of those teams, let alone the Lions. The Lions offense was strong as well as the special teams unit, but the Lions defense weren't nearly as strong as any of those teams.

Anyway, the Lions were running the very same offense back then that the Colts are running today (although David Sloan at the time was nowhere near as fast or as versatile as Dallas Clark of today). The team had an explosive trio of wide receivers in Herman Moore, Brett Perriman, and Johnnie Morton, Barry Sanders in the backfield, and new free agent quarterback Scott Mitchell from Miami who had an unexpectedly phenomenal year. This unit is still hailed as posting up one of the most prolific offensive seasons in NFL history. Unfortunately the team went out and got smashed by the Eagles in the Wild Card round playoff game.

The offensive unit was derailed when Wayne Fontes got fired, then Bobby Ross came in and brought in a new offensive system with him utilizing far less 3-WR sets with single back, and more a Base personnel groupings involving a fullback.
