Re: So. . . who do ya like?
SB Champ: Tennessee Titans
Amazing how little respect this team gets. I looked @ an ESPN poll were online users could rank the playoff teams. Tenn came in 4th. Behind Pittsburgh, who they had just soundly beat despite significant injuries. And behind Indy, when Tennessee had won the division.
SB loser: New York Giants
I hate picking my team (the Panthers). Atl does have a rookie QB. Arizona won their division by default. Do we know what the Eagles are? Vikes are too dependent on AP. NYG are the defending champs w/home field.
MVP: Chad Pennington
(I'd just like to make note that there have only been a few true MVP's in modern NFL history. Players play only half the game & positions are so diverse & specialized, its almost impossible for anyone to be truly a team's MVP.)
I know this appears out of the blue. But Miami finished 11-5 w/a net pt advantage of just 28 pts. GB had a +39 & finished 6-10. 4 other non-playoff teams had a higher one than the Dolphins. That just underscores how small a margin for error this team had. Would this team have finished on the plus side w/the young, green QB's they had when training camp opened? Miami may have not improved 5 games, let alone 10.
AFC Off POY: Phillip Rivers
Most underrated season in 2008. Tied for the league lead in TD passes w/Drew Brees despite throwing 157 fewer passes. Only player of 6 to throw for 4000 yds & average fewer than 30 throws a game. This w/a subpar LT & an injured Antonio Gates hurt all year. He had a number of last minute drives squandered away by his defense. If SD had realized @ the end of last year this should be Rivers team instead of LT's, they may haven't struggled to make the playoffs this year.
AFC Def POY: James Harrison
Only player w/double digit sacks & 100+ tackles. Also led the NFL in forced fumbles.
AFC COY: Jeff Fisher
Everyone forgets Vince Young was suppossed to be the QB. The controversy concerning him now seems like a distant memory. Won w/a retread @ QB, a relatively unknown rookie @ HB, no WR's who'd make a GM's want list, & a defense that will leave you sore for weeks to come.
AFC ROY: Steve Slaton & Chris Johnson
Slaton has slightly better numbers. But Johnson was the main weapon on possibly the NFL's best team. Too close to split the 2.
NFC Off POY: DeAngelo Williams
1st in scoring among non-kickers. 3rd in rushing. 2nd in yds per carry.
NFC Def POY: Jon Beason
This is not a homer pick. Tops in solo tackles. Tied for 4th in pass defended among LB's. Tied for 2nd in INT's among LB's.
NFC COY: Mike Smith
So many changes on this team & franchise on both sides of the ball. They played a rookie QB, a career backup @ RB & in possibly the league's best division. And nearly won the South title.
NFC ROY: Matt Forte
Matt Ryan had a good year, for a rookie QB. He got a chance to feed off of a solid running game. Matt Forte was the Bears offense, not just a weapon. Led all RB's & his team in receptions.
