MattUMD224 2009 NFL Draft Thread
Quarterback Rankings
1. Matthew Stafford - Georgia Class: Junior Height: 6'3 Weight: 237 Pounds 40 Time: 4.78 2006 Stats: Completion- 123 Attempts- 256 Yards- 1749 Completion Percent- 52.7 Yards Per Attempt- 6.83 Touchdown- 7 Interceptions- 13 Sack- 12 2007 Stats: Completion- 194 Attempts- 348 Yards- 2523 Completion Percent- 55.7 Yards Per Attempt- 7.25 Touchdown- 19 Interceptions- 10 Sack- 15 2008 Stats: Completion- 235 Attempts- 383 Yards- 3459 Completion Percent- 61.4 Yards Per Attempt- 9.03 Touchdown- 25 Interceptions- 10 Sack- 17 Strengths: The main thing you notice about Matthew Stafford is his arm, which could be said that he has one of the strongest arms in the last couple of drafts. He is able to stand in the pocket and has the ability to move out of the box if needed, which people dont give him enough credit. He is able to put great zip on his throws and put it into tight places if needed. He is a smart quarterback that studies the tape at all times which shows on the field. He is able to read to read between zone and man coverage, always knows what seams and spaces will be available on each play. He is great on his pre-snap making his own audibles. Weakness: Even though he has one of the strongest arms in the draft he shows that he relies on it too much. This makes him prone to leading to unwanted turnovers and overthrown passes. He needs to work on his footwork when rolling out of the pocket, by watching the tape you can see that he tends to throw off his backfoot at times. Overview: Draft Grade: Top 5 Highlight Videos: 2008 Season Part 1 2008 SeasonPart 2 All Passes vs Georgia Tech 2. Mark Sanchez - USC Class: Junior Height: 6'3 Weight: 225 Pounds 40 Time: 4.85 2006 Stats: Completion- 3 Attempts- 7 Yards- 63 Completion Percent- 42.9 Yards Per Attempt- 9.00 Touchdown- 0 Interceptions- 1 Sack- 2 2007 Stats: Completion- 69 Attempts- 144 Yards- 695 Completion Percent- 60.5 Yards Per Attempt- 6.10 Touchdown- 7 Interceptions- 5 Sack- 4 2008 Stats: Completion- 241 Attempts- 366 Yards- 3207 Completion Percent- 65.8 Yards Per Attempt- 8.76 Touchdown- 34 Interceptions- 10 Sack- 17 Strengths: Mark is just another great USC quarterback to hit the draft. What his greatest strength in the passing game is how good he is on "timed throws". He shows that he can get back in the pocket quick and get the ball released to hit the receiver on stride to help gain extra YAC. He has enough athleticism and agility to get out of the box on bootlegs and throws great on the run. He is great on the play-action pass. He has decent arm strength and is able to throws a decent deep ball. Doesn't make too many mistakes and is able to red defenses well on the pre-snap. Weakness: Has only had one full year of starting, and was surround by great talent. Enter the draft too early and needs another year of experience, but I think he entered the draft knowing next year is a good class. by viewing tape you can see that he tends to hold on to the ball way to long which forces him to take sacks, or having to roll out and scramble. His deep balls sometimes tend to sail on him. Overview: Draft Grade: Top 20 Highlight Videos: All Pass Attempts in Rose Bowl Mark Sanchez 2008 Highlights 3. Graham Harrell-Texas Tech Class: Senior Height: 6'2 Weight: 217 40 Time: 4.89 2005 Stats: Completion- 37 Attempts- 55 Yards- 422 Completion Percent- 67.3 Yards Per Attempt- 7.67 Touchdown- 3 Interceptions- 0 Sack- 2 2006 Stats: Completion- 412 Attempts- 616 Yards- 4555 Completion Percent- 66.9 Yards Per Attempt- 7.39 Touchdown- 38 Interceptions- 11 Sack- 19 2007 Stats: Completion- 512 Attempts- 713 Yards- 5705 Completion Percent- 71.8 Yards Per Attempt- 8.00 Touchdown- 48 Interceptions- 14 Sack- 16 2008 Stats: Completion- 442 Attempts- 626 Yards- 5111 Completion Percent- 70.6 Yards Per Attempt- 8.17 Touchdown- 45 Interceptions- 9 Sack- 14 Strengths: Graham strength is that he is a very accurate quarterback. He is extremely accurate on his short and intermediate passes. While watching the tape you are able to see that when he is pressured or is facing a rush he shows to be calm and poised and is able to throw an accurate throw off is back foot. He is another quarterback that shows to be great at the "timed-throws", which is what most of his passes were in college. His arm is above-average and shows great velocity on his throws. Has the ability to escape out of the pocket and to set his feet up and throw that ball. Is a natural born leader, and great decison maker. Weakness: People with question him as he comes from a "gimmick offense". Quarterbacks from the spread offense show to have troubles adapting to the pro-style offense. He was only scene in the shot-gun. He has above-average arm strength so he has to anticapte his throws. He has trouble with accuracy when he throws over 30 yards. His size is also an issue as he is only 6'2. Overview: Harrell showed during the Senior Bowl week that he has the ability and skills to translate into the NFL. His stock will only take a hit becuase he came into the week with the most expectations of the quarterbacks. I could see a team taking him in the Mid 2nd to Early 3rd to have him sit back and watch a proven vetern and gain experience Draft Grade: Mid 2nd Highlight Videos: Graham Harrell Highlights 4. Josh Freeman - Kansas State Class: Height: Weight: 40 Time: 2006 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- 2007 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- 2008 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- Strengths: Weakness: Overview: Draft Grade: Mid 2nd - Early 3rd Highlight Videos: 5. Hunter Cantwell - Louisville Class: Senior Height: 6'5 Weight: 235 40 Time: 4.89 2005 Stats: Completion- 39 Attempts- 73 Yards- 640 Completion Percent- 53.4 Yards Per Attempt- 8.77 Touchdown- 5 Interceptions- 4 Sack- 8 2006 Stats: Completion- 45 Attempts- 70 Yards- 640 Completion Percent- 64.3 Yards Per Attempt- 10.00 Touchdown- 5 Interceptions- 2 Sack- 3 2007 Stats: Completion- 8 Attempts- 14 Yards- 79 Completion Percent- 57.1 Yards Per Attempt- 5.64 Touchdown- 0 Interceptions- 1 Sack- 0 2008 Stats: Completion- 221 Attempts- 377 Yards- 2493 Completion Percent- 5806 Yards Per Attempt- 5.64 Touchdown- 16 Interceptions- 16 Sack- 20 Strengths: Has the protypical size you want in an NFL quarterback. He has great arm strength and can make all the throws. He has a great deepball and able to connect on stride with his recievers. Shows to have decent agility for his size. Weakness: Experience is his problem. He is a quarterback that will be drafted on potential, as he showed flashes of being a good quarterback while being a back-up to Brian Brohm. Needs to work on footwork inside of the pocket. Overview: Cantwell is a quarterback that any team would like to have and use as a project. He came into Louisville as a walk-on player and became a starter. He is graded on his games while doing relif work for Brian Brohm. He didnt have the best senior season this year but again due to his potential and arm strength he will be drafted on that alone. Draft Grade: Late 3rd Highlight Videos: 6. Nate Davis - Ball State Class: Height: Weight: 40 Time: 2006 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- 2007 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- 2008 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- Strengths: Weakness: Overview: Draft Grade: Highlight Videos: 7. Tom Brandstater - Fresno State Class: Senior Height: 6'5 Weight: 216 40 Time: 4.70 2005 Stats: Completion- 6 Attempts- 13 Yards- 49 Completion Percent- 46.2 Yards Per Attempt- 3.77 Touchdown- 1 Interceptions- 1 Sack- 0 2006 Stats: Completion- 146 Attempts- 268 Yards- 1490 Completion Percent- 54.9 Yards Per Attempt- 55.6 Touchdown- 13 Interceptions- 14 Sack- 6 2007 Stats: Completion- 211 Attempts- 337 Yards- 2654 Completion Percent- 62.6 Yards Per Attempt- 7.88 Touchdown- 15 Interceptions- 5 Sack- 17 2008 Stats: Completion- 221 Attempts- 371 Yards- 2664 Completion Percent- 59.6 Yards Per Attempt- 7.18 Touchdown- 18 Interceptions- 12 Sack- 17 Strengths: Brandstater has the protypical size for and NFL quarterback. Every year as a starting quarterback he has improve on his accuracy. He has good footwork going back into his 3 and 5 steps, and has showed good ability to roll out of the pocket. He has good arm strength and knows when to put touch on his throws. Has played in a Pro-Style offense. Weakness: Has trouble with throwing the deep ball as his throws tend to sail on him. Usually you see him eyeing down his main target from the start. Tries to put to much touch on passes that lead to turnovers. Overview: Brandstater regressed from his junior year to his senior year. But since of his size and arm strength makes him a good mid-round prospect. Draft Grade: 4th Highlight Videos: Brandstater Breaking Down Defense On The Blackboard] 8. Rhett Bomar - Sam Houston State Class: Senior Height: 6'2 Weight:224 40 Time: 4.75 2006 Stats (At Oklahoma): Completion- 167 Attempts- 308 Yards- 2018 Completion Percent- 54.2 Yards Per Attempt- 6.6 Touchdown- 10 Interceptions- 10 Sack- 19 2007 Stats: Completion- 172 Attempts- 291 Yards- 2209 Completion Percent- 59.1 Yards Per Attempt- 7.6 Touchdown- 27 Interceptions- 13 Sack- 11 2008 Stats: Completion- 245 Attempts- 436 Yards- 3355 Completion Percent- 56.2 Yards Per Attempt- 7.7 Touchdown- 27 Interceptions- 13 Sack- 20 Strengths: He has above-average build for an NFL quarterback. He has a very quick release on his short and intermediate routes, finding his receivers in space. Has the ability to move around the pocket and shows good footwork. Showed toughness as he played some games inthe 2007 season with a torn acl Weakness: He tends to lock down his number one receiver on routes. Worked out of the shotgun most of the season. He needs to add some zip on his outside the number passes. Overview: Bomar first started his career at Oklahoma, but had off-the-field issues that made him land at Sam Houston State. Did not have the best showing at the Senior Bowl, having issues with being under center, and showed and unorthodox release on his throws. His stock was on the rise but with his poor showing i think he will land in the 4th or 5th round. Draft Grade: 4th-5th Highlight Videos: 9. Mike Teel - Rutger Class: Height: Weight: 40 Time: 2006 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- 2007 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- 2008 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- Strengths: Weakness: Overview: Draft Grade: Highlight Videos: 10. Drew Willy - Buffalo Class: Height: Weight: 40 Time: 2006 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- 2007 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- 2008 Stats: Completion- Attempts- Yards- Completion Percent- Yards Per Attempt- Touchdown- Interceptions- Sack- Strengths: Weakness: Overview: Draft Grade: Highlight Videos: 11. Willie Tuitama 12. Stephen McGee 13. Cullen Harper - Clemson Class: Senior Height: 6'3 Weight: 22740 Time: 4.76 2005 Stats: Completion- 1 Attempts- 2 Yards- 15 Completion Percent- 50.0 Yards Per Attempt- 7.50 Touchdown- 0 Interceptions- 0 Sack- 1 2006 Stats: Completion- 14 Attempts- 20 Yards- 155 Completion Percent- 70.0 Yards Per Attempt- 7.75 Touchdown- 1 Interceptions- 0 Sack- 1 2007 Stats: Completion- 282 Attempts- 433 Yards- 2991 Completion Percent- 65.1 Yards Per Attempt- 6.91 Touchdown- 27 Interceptions- 6 Sack- 32 2008 Stats: Completion- 221 Attempts- 360 Yards- 2601 Completion Percent- 61.4 Yards Per Attempt- 7.23 Touchdown- 13 Interceptions- 14 Sack- 29 Strengths: Is a leader on and off the field and that showed as he was named captain his first full year as a starter. He has an average arm and his at his best in medium range routes. Shows great accuracy when on the rollout. He played in a Pro-Style offense. Weakness: DId not operate well in his 2nd yearas a starter. Did not preform good with all the talent that was surrounded by him. Locks down his receivers. Overview: Harper has great mobility and accuracy on the run which makes him a prospect. I see him fitting well in a West Coast offense, sitting behind a vetern and learning the system. Given all the talent hewas surround with he did not preform to the expectations he was given. Came into the year as the potential first quarterback to be take, but his down year made his stock decline. Draft Grade: 6th Highlight Videos: Cullen Harper 50 Yard TD pass Harper Game Winning TD Drive 14. Pat White 15. Curtis Painter 16. Brian Hoyer 17. Todd Boeckman 18. Nathan Brown 19.
