Possible Teams for Greg Ellis?

Now that it appears that LB/DE Greg Ellis is leaving Dallas what teams do you guys consider to be a possibility for him?

Re: Possible Teams for Greg Ellis?

i said months ago that Dallas is rebuilding, whether they or the fans know it or not. Their brief window closed on them 2 years ago.

this is just another indicator.

Ellis should go somewhere with a 3-4, as he has been better as an OLB than a DE. I wonder if Washington would be interested, though? Maybe Jets or Chiefs?

I'd say Chiefs or Redskins should be interested in getting him.

Re: Possible Teams for Greg Ellis?

Pretty sad to see a guy who's been there through it all get dangled around like this the past 3-4 offseasons. Hopefully, he'll go to a team where he can contribute. The guy still has the ability to play and has shown he can do both: OLB & DE.

I'd take him in GB. He's shown he can get to the QB and we can use that here since that's been a problem of ours for a while.

Doubt it happens though.

Completely and utterly false. Greg Ellis is being let go because 1) he's getting long in the tooth (we drafted him in 1998 I believe), 2) he's been paranoid about losing his job for about the past three years and been one of many headcases on the team, 3) salary cap implications, we can save some money by shipping him out, and 4) the coaching staff obviously feels like our first-round pick from 2007, Anthony Spencer, is ready to assume Ellis' spot.

How is Dallas a rebuilding team when the quarterback is in place, the skill position players are plenty talented (particularly in the backfield with Barber, Jones, and Choice; also we have arguably the best receiving TE in the league in Jason Witten, and our wide receivers have talent and potential but admittedly have plenty to prove), the defense is good (they're not the Steelers or the Ravens, but they too have talent; Ware, Ratliff, Hamlin, Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, James), and on top of all that the team is still relatively youthful? This team is built to win now, or in the near future (I think they're missing but a couple of pieces, but they've got enough to win now if everyone plays up to their abilities, IMO).

A rebuilding team, in my opinion, is a team like Detroit or St. Louis. We're not the best team in the league, but we're by no means in that dire of straits.

Back to Greg Ellis now, I've heard New England and Cincinnati are likely destinations for him as well; he'd probably be moved back to defensive end if he went to the Bengals, though, as they play a 4-3 scheme.
