Looks like a flaming thumbtack to me.

Re: Time for the Bills to change their uniforms!!!

Being a Bills fan/ Buffalo local, I'm pretty surprised to see so many people outside the area wishing for a return to the 90's uniform. Most of my friends who are die hard Bills fans loathe the current unis, so much so that one of our local beat reporters called our away white on whites a pair of pajamas. Lots of fans here wish we went with the standing buffalo helmet and unis full time if we weren't able to go back to our 90's duds. Lots of people outside the area love the white helmet-charging buffalo- blue facemask helmet a ton, but a large amount of fans here remember the team being god awful in those unis and would like to banish memories of them. Also, never ever mention the red helmet-blue facemask era, possibly the only era in Bills history rivaling their current futility. The funniest thing about how much love there is for the 90's era unis is that the jersey itself is almost identical to that worn by the Giants during the same time period, so it was hardly an iconic uni, just a solid football uniform. I think the biggest problem is that the Bills bought into that whole early 2000s trend for sports teams to for some reason banish primary colors in favor of boring darker shades, like the Eagles and Seahawks, who had awesome jerseys that never needed updating. Many teams in the NHL did the same thing during the 90s and when the EDGE system was introduced a few years ago, some teams reversed the error (see Washington Capitals).

Actually the Bills were a solid team from '78-82 in those duds. It's just that the earlier part of the white helmet/charging buffalo era was quite pathetic in the later stages of OJ's career.

Re: Time for the Bills to change their uniforms!!!

Thanks for the clarification SPTO, at least I was accurate about the red helmet-blue facemask era. About the only good thing out of that was '86 when Kelly finally arrived. Personally, I'm against the blue pants, just look too goofy to me. Monochrome white on the road is good enough IMHO. As long as we get away from this blue on blue thing at home, though the problem is that our current unis look like dog doo when they wear the blue on white and vice versa ala the Bledsoe years.

Also, the reason the red helmet was introduced in the first place is that the whole AFC east at one point had teams with white helmets, and the Bills wanted a unique look. A few years later the Jets followed suit with the green helmets of the 80s-90s. I'm pretty sure it would be tough to eliminate the red helmet from a team marketing standpoint since: A. the Bills were the most successful wearing the red helmet, which helps sales from a nostalgia standpoint for some fans, and B. It keeps the team unique within a division that still has two of four teams wearing white lids.
