Re: MattUMD224 2010 Draft Database

1. Jimmy Clausen – Notre Dame – Junior

2. Sam Bradford – Oklahoma – Junior

Height: 6’4
Weight: 214
Ideal Scheme: West Coast
Draft Grade: Top 20
Strengths He is mentally and physically tough which is shown by the way he stands in the pocket while plays develop. He is deadly accurate with his throws from short to deep. He has good enough arm strength to throw the deep ball in the pros. He has good mechanics on his drop backs and when rolling out. Likes to use his pump fake to get his receivers open and leads them well enough to pick up good YAC. He has good enough mobility to brushes off pressure and is able to run to pick up yards if needed. He looks through all of his progressions and looks off to every receiver to get the best pass off.

Weakness: Tearing his AC Joint in his shoulder will cause some concerns from teams looking to draft a quarterback in the first round. The injury could have some affect on the way he throws the ball and the velocity he gets on the deep ball. He already has a 3/4th style throwing motion that will lead to some batted balls in the NFL. He needs to add on more weight to his frame. He hasn’t had much pressure in his face as he has had a good offensive line during his career at Oklahoma

Analysis: Missing the entire 2009 season will have some affect on his draft stock. His pro workouts and combine will be the deciding factor on weather his should is completely fixed or not. During his two years of starting he showed great accuracy and leadership ability and led his team to National Championship while lighting up the score boards.

3. Tony Pike – Cincinnati – Senior

Height: 6’5
Weight: 209
Ideal Scheme:
Draft Grade: 2nd Round

Strengths He has the prototypical height for a NFL Quarterback. He has enough mobility for his size to get out of the pocket and make plays on his feet. He has great accuracy for the short to intermediate routes. Also shows good accuracy when rolling out of the pocket and throwing on the run.

Weakness: He has a problem with locking onto his primary receiver during his progression. He holds onto the ball too long in hopes of making the big play which results into sacks. He as had many injury concerns throughout his career at Cincinnati which led to him missing games. His arm strength is another thing that comes into question; he is able to put good zip on intermediate passes but has trouble with throwing the deep ball.

Analysis: Pike was a leading Hesisman candidate early inn the season until he was injured. He is a proven leader that has helped changed the way Cincinnati is looked at. He has lead the team to two BCS games in his career. With the right coaching he could be looked at in 10 years as the best quarterback coming out of this class. He needs to put on some weight to his frame so he doesn’t get hurt as often, as injury concerns are the only thing that can hurt his draft stock.

4. Tim Tebow – Florida – Senior

5. Tim Hiller – Western Michigan – Senior

6. Jonathan Crompton – Tennessee- Senior

1. C.J. Spiller – Clemson – Senior

2. Jonathan Dwyer – Georgia Tech – Junior

3. Montario Hardesty – Tennessee – Senior

4. Jahvid Best – California – Junior

5. Ryan Mathews – Fresno State – Junior

6. Anthony Dixon – Mississippi State – Senior

Height: 6'0
Weight: 240
Ideal Scheme: Two-Back
Draft Grade: 3rd Round

Strengths He has good vision on his runs and displays good cut-back to get through open lanes. Shows good patience on plays and is able to bounce to the outside if needed. With his size he is able to break lots of tackles and always takes more than one defender to bring him down. Has good initial burst out of the backfield and run staright downhill. Shows a very good stiff arm at the line to break away from defenders. He was a very good pass catcher out of the backfield. Has not missed a game in three years.

Weakness: Needs to produce more in a two-back set, while at Mississippi State he peform mostly out of a one-back set where he was able to take the ball deep and slash through the holes. He doesn’t have top-end speed after he gets through the hole. Is not elusavie in the open field and not able to sepereate from defenders. Not a very good pass blocker and does poor job taking play action.

Analysis: Was able to produce with a bad line while at Mississippi State. He has lots of carries coming into the draft, but with no majore injury concerns that should not lead to be an issue. Believe that his first initial burst coming off the line is good enough to warrant him 2nd-3rd round draft pick. Will most likely split carries with a scat back in the league and will get lots of goal-line carries.
