Re: Week 5: Oakland Raiders (2-2) @ Houston Texans (3-1)
Some games are Kubiak's fault, some games aren't.
Kubiak doesn't do a very good job of game management sometimes. He takes too long in his adjustments. Like, Foster wasn't doing anything in the run game because Andre's out and the Raiders were stacking the DL/box. I was yelling at the TV from the moment I noticed the run wasnt effective to use Foster in screens or short passes. Also, when we get into the end zone, his playcalling becomes wonky. It's weird. Then we have this propensity to play one half. That makes no sense. Obviously no team can dominate every quarter of every game, but I can't remember the last time we put forth a good game throughout. Each game this season has been a tale of two halves, and pretty much every game last year was the same. That can't happen. Once in a while, the competence has to be there the entire game.
I think the first play we saw like that was around the middle of the third quarter. And obviously he tore it up.
Yesterday was more of an execution problem rather than a coaching problem. The playbook was shortened because Andre was out, and Tate/Ward werent in as backups for Foster. That doesn't mean the team shouldn't execute. Jacoby couldn't run a route (when has he ever?) and this resulted in Schaub looking inaccurate. Jacoby had ELEVEN targets and he only had ONE catch.
It's tough when there are other circumstances going on. Kubiak doesn't make Sage Rosenfels turn into a helicopter. Kubiak doesn't make Andre Johnson miss a catch and then kick it into the San Diego DB's hands. Kubiak doesn't make Joel Dreesen fumble, allowing the Jaguars to have a hail mary opportunity. Kubiak doesn't make Glover Quin hit the ball into the WRs hands instead of down or catching it. Kubiak doesn't allow the Jets to march down in the last 50 seconds of the game and win the game.
Kubiak can definitely be blamed for a lot of the ills, but unlike most of the idiot Texans fans on other Texans boards, I'm not going to crucify him for every single little thing possible and then trace EVERYTHING else back to him or management for "putting us in this position to begin with."
It's funny. This year so far, the offense is putting the defense in a horrible position. Last year, the COMPLETE opposite, with the defense putting the offense in IMPOSSIBLE situations week in, week out.
It''s going to be tough with the injuries. Mario's done for the year. Andre's missed a couple weeks and might miss a couple more. The best RB depth in the league is nil at this point.
That said, six years is a long time. If he doesnt get into the playoffs this year, he needs to be fired.
