Question about Joe Montana

What exactly happened with his Injured Elbow that forced him to miss so much time? I know it was serious but considering I was not alive in 1990 and the internet is not yielding any definitive answer, I figured ask OS

Check his wiki.

I idolized the guy and when Leonard Marshall hit him from the blind side boy was I scared.

Bruised Sternum
Bruised Stomach
Fractured Ribs
Broken Hand

That hit forced him to miss 1991 and most of 1992. The elbow injury was a bit of a recurring thing throughout his career. Not to mention he had a pretty bad back injury a few years before, so I'm sure that hit didn't help that either.

Re: Question about Joe Montana

aActually that back injury was a bit of a serious thing as there was talk that it would seriously effect Montana's career. I remember in watching the SB where they destroyed the Broncos a lot was made of the fact that Montana had fully come back and was at the peak of his powers. The back injury had actually taken a lot out of Montana in that his mobility was cut in half. After the injury he could only really run to his right rather than to his left which he did a lot in his younger years.

The elbow was indeed a recurring thing in his career but the Leonard Marshall hit nearly ended his career right then and there and was one of the main factors in the Niners going with Young over Montana.

Re: Question about Joe Montana

Here's the actual footage for those too young or who don't remember. In a way it didn't look THAT bad but once you see the replays and such well.....Yeah.
