I think it will be Allen because 22 sacks is too much to ignore, but I would give the award to Suggs. I think his play actually impacted the Ravens in a positive way, helping them win games. Allen, while he played well and worked his butt off, showing great character along the way, really didn't lift his team up.

Re: 2011/12 Defensive Player Of The Year

I think 22 sacks can be ignored when you look at the circumstances.

Allen played for a 3-13 team on the 21st ranked defense. Only one player has gotten the DPOY on a defense ranked lower than 14th. That was Reggie White and he had 21 sacks but in just 12 games.

Theres a precedent of sack leaders on bad defenses/teams losing the DPOY to players with slightly less sacks on better defense/teams.

I think Allen's circumstance only builds a stronger case for him.

Yeah, I need to go with the King on this one.

The fact that he rose above the 21st ranked defense and despite playing on a 3-13 team, he nearly broke the sack record.

If Favre was playing against him in the last game, he might have let him have sack #23.

Im talking about the who will win side of the argument. Just looking at the history of the award sack leaders on worse defenses often get overlooked. Even record setters have been skipped over. I just think its a low % chance that Allen gets the award.

and if he plays a starting QB he might not have even lead the NFL sacks

I understand what you are talking about, but I still feel Allen will win, history or not. He's been overlooked when the Vikings were good.

Gut feelings sometimes when out over stats. I'm going on my gut, you can go on historical stats if you choose.

And we don't play in a world of if's, would of's could of's. A lot of that is being played out on here at OS.
