Thumbs up A completely different take on power rankings

I came across this - http://besreport.com/week-2-bes-rankingsb/

Im a huge fan the numbers behind the game. I love stuff from Football Outsiders and Pro Football Focus but like the way this BES Report breaks it down. Some of the rankings are questionable. Not sure anybody should be ranked above New England or that the Colts are the worst team in football right now but I've seen crazier rankings at FO.

Either way, I'll be following these rankings throughout the season. Looks like a really young site too but I like what the guy has put together. What do you all think?

The BES Report is objective and strictly stat-driven. The reason is that we feel the stats tell the most concise, to-the-point story of how and why a team won or lost a game.
If they are only using primary stats such as yards, points scored, and turnovers, then I'm not a huge fan of this grading system from the outset. It would appear that this is the case, given that Denver is listed as the top team.

DVOA - "Defense-adjusted Value Over Average", the metric Football Outsiders computes to evaluate teams - is a more effective measurement of team quality IMO because it considers the context in which yards were gained. For example, DVOA values 4 yards on 3rd and 3 more than 15 yards on 3rd and 20; the former gives your team a first down, the latter has your team punting more often than not. This BES system, by my interpretation, values the 15 yards gained more than the first down, which IMO is not the correct approach.
