Still an excellent shot at a top 10 pick
I doubt that.

Last year, the Broncos had the 10th pick (traded to the Steelers). The Broncos were 6-10. Pittsburgh needs 3 wins to do better than 6-10. With their remaining schedule, they should get to 7 without much trouble.

The steelers dont have the talent to be a 7 win team with the remaining teams on their schedule.

Yeah they do.

You could have said they don’t have the talent to be a .500 team at the midway point yet here they are.

It’s not like they have to continue their current pace to win 7 games either. They can take a step down in the second half and reach seven wins.

Edit: I do disagree with Steelerfan saying they are more likely to contend for a playoff spot. I think 8-8 is their ceiling

Lol.

You've already put them at 6 (Bengals, Jets) so you're saying they lose all 6 of the other games. Ok. Good luck with that.

More likely to contend in a weak AFC than go 2-6 down the stretch. 9-7 probably makes the playoffs in the AFC. Being in the mix for that possibility late in the season is more likely than them being 6-10 or worse. I don't think I'm wrong (and the possibility exists that they don't finish in the bottom 10 or be in the playoff picture late).

Re: Week 9 Discussion Thread

Impressive win for Baltimore over the Patriots. Even with two early careless turnovers, they didn’t succumb to the Pats, they kept punching.

Blueprint to defeating them? Run it, run it, run it to set up the pass and play great defense. Tough to say it can be replicated since they have a guy named Lamar Jackson and had the bye week to prepare. Foolishly, maybe, I see the Bills as a Ravens Lite. I stand by my assessment that the only teams that can beat NE are Baltimore (run/defense), KC (pure offense) and Buffalo (run/defense/familiarity). Maybe Indy. And it’s still not a 50/50 proposition. NE will probably win the matchup 7 out of 10 times.

The Pats offense isn’t as high powered as years past but they still can chip away and convert 3rd downs to drive you crazy. Gotta get an early lead and fend them off. They don’t just lie down.

I don't think you can use Baltimore as a blueprint to beating the Patriots. Ravens are just too unique of a team.

Brady is definitely showing his age. Many of his passes last night were off the mark when he was not in a clean pocket. Ravens pass rush is not great, I think it is actually below average. Last I saw, we have one of the most inefficient blitz success rates in the league. We have to run casino blitzes in order to generate consistent pressure. Some teams that can get that same pressure by sending 5 would be in a good position vs them.

Think the key to most teams beating the Patriots would be pressuring Brady and forcing bad throws, while on offense limiting mistakes. Don't think a team necessarily has to run, run, run to beat them. That could lead to early 3 and outs and give the Patriots an early lead and you don't want to have to play catch up. Patriots defense is good, but not nearly as good as the first half statistics suggest. I don't think they are some behemoth you would think they are being 8-1; any playoff caliber team can beat them.
