Betting in Football

Most of the time in any event I stay interested because of the pure thrill of winning some cold hard cash.
But what if you couldn't bet in any means on the game of football.

Who thinks that the NFL and all other sports can not live without wagering of some kind?

I don't think it can keep a good fan base if it was totally illegal.

I think the NFL is doing just fine the way it is

I don't gamble and don't care.

I think football will NOT be damaged if wagering of any kind was illegal

Undecided

I say this because I get, I become a different fan when money is on the line. It's a great feeling.

I must admit that the DuffMan is downright scared of dabbling in football betting, period. It's just one more vice that I definitely DON'T need. Especially as a rabid fan. I'd be homeless by week 3.

Re: Betting in Football

It's an interesting relationship that the NFL has with Las Vegas. The commissioner and entire league completely dismiss all discussions or ties to gambling, but then:

- they change the late games to start at 4:15 EST, which is simply to provide a window for gamblers to get their bets in after the early games.

- the league punishes teams for not being accurate on their injury reports, which is simply to allow Vegas to set the lines more accurately.

I've bet on games in the past. It's a lot of fun, but too stressful and too difficult over a long period of time. You'll go broke if you think you're going to make money at it consistently.

Now I only bet on games when in Las Vegas once or twice a year.

Re: Betting in Football

I always bet...especially on Monday Night games and usually bet against what the rest of the country does and found this to be my most successful technique of winning cash

Sunday games ....anything pretty much goes

Sunday Night games...bet against the public and it has been about 65% successful for me

Monday Night games....bet against the public and it has been about 80% successful for me

These are odds that no 1-900-football handicapper can EVER match!

I've been doin it for the last 10 years and have won big money. You just have to be willing to lose at times too and not get greedy

Re: Betting in Football

Oh Crap. Can't edit, its too late.
My bad fellas.

I'm just interested in your feedback because when money is on the line, in means of a football pool, nfl sunday can be really fun. But when I'm not in any pool for money, " the pool is only 5 dollars and the jackpot is around 250 every week", I just watch those religious shows on nfl sunday. IT can be very boring for me and I'm surprised that if it was 100% illegal, i'm surprised to see the number of NFL fans drop because of it.

Most of my family usually only watches football, and we're big fans, when money is at risk.

Re: Betting in Football

I'm also in a pool in Long Island. it started out about 2 years ago. $10 a man and the jackpot was about $400-$500. Since then it has picked up steam and has been snowballing to even areas of NJ ( people are just getting their friends involved ) This past week, the pot was at $9400 but now there were about 12-15 winners as opposed to the 3 or 4 from 2 years ago. Still this is a nice chunk of change if you hit. I havent hit 6 for 6 since the early days 2 years ago.
