Playmakers create
Scoring defensemen score from the point and are usually good at slapshots or wristers
Defensive defensemen stay back and play d
Grinders are the big hitters I believe.

It's a good game. I have lots of tips from some OSers who are familiar with the game that I can send to you also to help you out. It's going to be a big learning curve to start though

It's gonna be a chippy game. The NHL must be loving this, showing all the passion on the ice. Great way to sell the league. You've got skill, passion, hitting (Cleary going into the Hawks bench), everything.
