2. Calgary's defence is a lot worse in reality than it is on paper.
3. He's been overworked, and needs to be cut back to 55-65 starts a year.

If I'm the Sutter boys, I'm looking hard at addressing Option 3, which means finding someone better than McElhinney to start 15-25 games a season. Throwing Kipper out there for 75 games and just hoping he'll cut his GAA by nearly half doesn't strike me as much of a plan.
maybe a Joey MacDonald (was just placed on waivers)

EASTERN CONFERENCE
  1. Philadelphia Flyers
  2. Boston Bruins
  3. Carolina Hurricanes
  4. Pittsburgh Penguins
  5. Washington Capitals
  6. New Jersey Devils
  7. Toronto Maple Leafs
  8. Buffalo Sabres
  9. New York Rangers
  10. Atlanta Thrashers
  11. Montreal Canadiens
  12. Tampa bay Lightning
  13. Florida Panthers
  14. Ottawa Senators
  15. New York Islanders

WESTERN CONFERENCE

  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  2. San Jose Sharks
  3. Vancouver Canucks
  4. Calgary Flames
  5. St.Louis Blues
  6. Detroit Red Wings
  7. Anaheim Ducks
  8. Los Angeles Kings
  9. Dallas Stars
  10. Phoenix Coyotes
  11. Columbus Blue Jackets
  12. Nashville Predators
  13. Edmonton Oilers
  14. Colorado Avalanche
  15. Minnesota Wild
CUP: SJ Sharks VS Boston Bruins (Sharks win in 7)

Hart: Crosby (Thornton, Ovechkin get votes)
Art Ross: Thornton (90 assists)
Rocket Richard: Ovechkin (Kovalchuk, Heatley come close)
Vezina: Cam Ward (Luongo, Thomas get votes)
Norris: Chara ( Boyle, Pronger get votes)
Selke: Ryan Kesler
Lady Bying: Ilya Kovalchuk
Calder: Viktor Stalberg (Johnny T and HEdman get votes)

I PREDICT: the Leafs start off EXTREMELY strong (top 5 in the league), but when Kessel comes back the sprial down, barely make the playoffs and lose in the first round.

Bob Gainey's revamp of the Montreal line-up is a bust and the habs have a very mediocre season.

Heatley finds alot of chemisry with Joe Thornton and scores 50+ goals.

Ilya Kovalchuk has a great season and tests free agency

Rick DiPietro does not get injured, but still has a terrible season

Sweden wins the gold medal at the olympics
Russia gets silver
Slovakia gets bronze
Canada gets 4th

Actually, I don't think the scenario is that unrealistic. Canada will have a gold or bust attitude going into the games, while a bronze would be a tremendous achievement for the Slovaks (who did beat Sweden, Russia, and the US in 2006, most people forget that). Remember how Canada crapped the bed against Finland in the '98 bronze medal game?

Yeah but the Slovaks and Czechs to a lesser extent are fading. Talking 2010 they just can't compete.

Gaborik, Chara, Hossa, Demitra, Zednik, Svatos, Kopecky, Meszaros, Visnovsky.

Some pretty good, but aging players there. I was just predicting an upset.

Thought I would bump this to check back and see how horribly wrong my predictions were. Pretty bad but I got a few I guess.
