Ahh....so that's what it was. I remember Game 2 & 3 being on the sports network in previous finals, but when they released this year's schedule, and I thought I was wrong.

I think everyone will see the game on NBCSN while those who live in Los Angeles and surrounding areas will see it on NBC. But who knows NBC might make this game a national televised game on NBC.

I don't know if they have the ability to "flex" it. But you are right in that local area will get the broadcast on their NBC affiliate.

I'm not sure how the current deal is worse than the ESPN one. Isn't ESPN cable only also? Most casual fans/newbs to the NHL won't care about a first round matchup unless their team is involved. At least this way the finals are on NBC.

Good point. But if ESPN had the NHL rights, I assume all Cup Final games would be on ABC.

The Finals always aired on ABC when ESPN had the NHL.

I'm not trying to argue but I don't see a big difference in the two deals except ESPN, who everyone hates for sensationalism, and 2 finals games. Correct?

I don't think NBCSN reaches as many homes as ESPN, besides brand recognition

I didn't realize that. It seems not to matter much except for people that don't like hockey. The hockey base is stronger than people think it is. There have been lots of sellouts and I can find as much hockey on nbcsports as I can NBA basketball on 3 different networks.
