PES or FIFA for Newb?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum location.
I didn't want to start it in FIFA or PES for obvious reasons, but I wanted this community's opinion as to which game is better for someone who is extremely new and raw not only to soccer but soccer video games.

Which title would be best for someone completely unfamiliar to the genre?

I really like franchise/dynasty modes and I've read FIFA's is very deep.
If someone were to have almost no understandings of the ins-and-outs of the off-field dynamics of the sport, would it be overwhelming?

Also keep in mind that I know about 2 professional soccer players in the world, so proper player and team licenses aren't really a major concern for me.

Thanks to any who could provide any direction or answers for me.

P.S. I'm also thinking I would pick up this years versions as the cost would be less and I wouldn't have invested too much money on something I may not like in the end.
I've played both demo's and so far I'd have to say I prefer PES's gameplay. But my sample size is very small up to this point.
