Re: MX vs. ATV Reflex

Personally all I want is Motocross Madness 3 on the consoles and i'd be happy as a pig in mud...

Re: MX vs. ATV Reflex

These THQ MX games have been absolutly horrid since after MX Superfly, that's when Rainbow took over. This one is no exception. In fact it's the worst yet. Hasn't even been a good MX game since MTX Mototrax. Crusty Demons was the least bad.

I don't know why Rainbow can't make a decent MX game. Splashdown series was great,Offroad Fury was decent, heck even Matt Hoffman BMX 2 was good but all these suck.

You can't really judge a whole game by just the demo and if you're judging the demo off your experience with the controls, clearly you need to practice more and learn the controls. It's not going to play like any other game because the whole concept of the control system is new.

Unleashed was a really good game when it came out. The PC version still stands strong today.

Because the community has a better team than the actual one that puts the game together. New graphics, new physics (Sim Physics), new animations and realistic tracks have kept that game alive. Little to no one runs the stock game.

The company hired a few community guys for tracks and what not, but they picked people that already fit their mold (ie big, cheesy tracks)

MVA 2009 by the community will be interesting to see the end result

MX vs ATV Reflex is pretty much unlike any of the MX, ATV or MX vs ATV games since they rebuilt it from the ground up. New control system, better graphics, terrain deformation, etc.

XBOX Addict posted a review for the game if anyone's interested:
XBOX Addict Reflex Review

Gives some new info on the online/multiplayer stuff and runs down the tracks in the game. About 41 total which is a great number of courses. Hopefully there's more DLC too. Dude gave it a 9.1 out of 10 too. That just makes me even more excited for this release!

Re: MX vs. ATV Reflex

My PS3 Demo Impressions:

I used to race motocross in Australia (1995 YZ125 and then a 2003 CR250 for those interested!), so I always keep a close eye on any motocross game that comes out with anticipation... I've played probably most MX games that have come out and most of the time (apart from RC Championship MX PS2, Motocross Madness 2 PC and MX Simulator PC) I have been disappointed.

After playing the demo I have to say this is a really great game. First thing you'l notice is that it has become much more realistic compared to previous titles. I've played most of the mx v atv games and they have all been to this point, more for the "casual gamer"... that being, massive jumps, unrealistic turning, stupid "pre-pump" that is over exaggerated, and a large focus on tricks and not "real" racing.

In reflex, things have changed. The track deformation makes racing more strategic, you have to really pick your lines otherwise you will come unstuck. The learning curve is there, unlike the other titles, and it will take a little while to get used to moving/turning with two joysticks and when to use the rider leaning. Persevere though, because once it's mastered it is so awesome!

I play these games 99% of the time for pure "realistic" racing (yeah, I'm a sim head) and the racing in this is intense and exciting. You really have to play it for yourself to understand, but it feels so much more realistic to anything else that has come before it. Taking strategic lines plays a massive part in the game now due to terrain deformation. You could be coming around a corner and there is a massive rut in front of you... if you try and go over it you will bump around and slow down, it really makes you use the ruts that have developed and it is quite challenging.

So much good things to say about this game, I have been "watching this space" since it was announced, so I thought I would be let down in some way but alas, this has not happened. It has been since Motocross Madness 2 that I have actually bought a motocross game, but I will be pre-ordering this 100% for sure.

One thing I have to add that I know mx fans will love... you can now do really awesome realistic whips! It takes a while to get the "look" right, but once mastered you will be whipping over triples like there's no tomorrow... a massive plus as I know most real mx fans feel whipping in mx games has been really bad (apart from mx simulator).

Definately a must try game for any mx fan or anyone interested in mx games!!
