Considering all of the hype surrounding him and the relative paucity of results before 2003, you could have said the same thing about Dale Earnhardt Jr. before this season.

Junior was the Anna Kournikova of NASCAR -- all hype and little results -- before this season. Yet Junior gets tons more respect than R. Gordon, mainly because of his last name and pedigree.

Also remember that this year's lock as Winston Cup champion, Matt Kenseth, never has finished better than eighth in the standings during his career. And I think he's going to do OK this year.

Take care,
PK

Ive been saying those same things about Jr. too. Trust me, all my friends are big Jr. fans and I hear all I want about him from them. They dont listen to crap. He's finally having a good year and now all of a sudden they think he the great one.

And about Kenseth, he may not have finished higher than 8th in points before this year but he has won quite a few races. Five last year if I remember correctly, which is more than Robby's whole career. Im not downing the guy, I hope he keeps it up. Better Drivers = Better Racing.

Please don't ever make this comparison again. When I see junior, the last thing I want to do is imagine what he would look like in a short skirt.

LOL! Damn, that is funny.

R. Gordon is my favorite NASCAR driver, if you couldn't tell. One of my best friends does PR for Richard Childress Racing, and he says Robby is a great guy.

Plus I'm an open-wheel guy, and Gordon loves open wheel and the Indy 500.

I just like diversified racers a lot. Harkens back to the 60s when guys would drive just about anything. Now everyone is a specialist. We'll never see guys like Foyt and Mario again.

Mario: Only man to win Indy 500, Daytona 500 and F1 World Championship.

Foyt: Only man to win Indy 500, Daytona 500 and Le Mans 24 Hours.

The two most diversified racers ever. And arguably two of the best ever, right up there with my racing hero, Jim Clark.

Take care,
PK

Just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed that discussion, even though I'm kinda late. It's high time we had more NASCAR discussions on this board.

Hell, even Jim Rome had a NASCAR call on his radio show last night!! And it won the Call of the Night!! Rome was like, "This must be a sign the apocalypse is near."

I was at the race, but I couldn't see the altercation afterwards. Unfortunately everyone is talking about this incident instead of one of the best races I have seen at MIS for a loooong time.
