While this is certainly true, the issue with the bug is the relative speed between the human controlled car and the AI with fuel sim on as the race progresses. The human controlled car will get lighter and faster as the race goes on while the AI cars do not. AI lap times remain more or less the same.

For example, I can put the AI on the hardest difficulty with fuel sim on and they will start much faster than me. I will drop to last place with middle of the pack car on the first lap because my car is so heavy with fuel. I will lap significantly slower than every other car in the beginning. However, as I burn fuel off I get faster and will eventually pass quite a few cars like they are standing still towards the end of the race. It is that uneven performance that is undesirable in my opinion. The other option is to be competitive early on and smoke the field at the end of the race.

You are obviously much better than me as on the hardest settings unless I am perfect lap after lap I am battling at the end even with fuel sim on.

I'm most likely no better than you. I was referring to passing the backmarkers towards the end of the race. Moreover it will take me many laps to catch them with fuel sim on (burn fuel, get faster, catch up).
