Re: Need for Speed: Most Wanted Impressions

Do the cars handle well? What other racers would you compare it too? Need for Speed The Run? NFS Hot Pursuit? Or is it different again?

I dont mind an arcade feel but not something like the latest Ridge Racer. Burnout Paradise was fine.

I'd say they handle like a refined Hot Persuit/Burnout.

I played for 1.5 hours last night, it was definitely fun. The only thing I did was free roam and races, I didn't like the checkpoints. I was hoping the races would let me take any route I wanted in a race, but it was making me hit the checkpoints.

I tried the one hour trial last night and had quite a bit of fun with this. It's nowhere near Burnout: Paradise level fun, but this turned out to be better than expected. We had fun multiplayer nights with Paradise. This has gone from a maybe to a purchase within the next few weeks.

I have no interest in online play. How's single player?

Re: Need for Speed: Most Wanted Impressions

After racing games taking forever to capture a true sense of speed I think this game actually over does it by one step. 120mph here feels like 220 in other racing games that also do a good job of capturing that sense of speed. For me it makes this game feel very twitchy and makes a beautiful game nothing but a blur during most gameplay.

The speed also makes the mini map frustrating because it doesn't show many of the side streets and they are pretty much impossible for me to see at game speed. This makes the game miss out on a lot of the turn, hide, find something cool while racing/running that similar games do a good job of. Those places are out there in this game but to find and see them you kind of have to do it while cruising around slowly and not really "playing" the game.

I'm not exactly sure what some if you were expecting out I the multiplayer as it was clearly explained pre-release and then again in almost EVERY review. It's a free roam mode where you can to do whatever you want until a race pops up. At that point you race to the race, winner gets extra XP, then you race. It's by no means "lazy" or "tacked on" just because it's different. Every review for this game has been an 8 or 9/10 so far (which mine would be as well) and much of that praise is for the multiplayer. Not every game has to be Call of Duty

And lol at breaking a controller in the first hour. It's a video game... learn some self control.
Agree to disagree on the lazy part.

Re: Need for Speed: Most Wanted Impressions

Well I just finished the one hour trial and I agree it's not fair to compare this game to Horizon, two completely different games. Off line I can see being a real fun experience and will probably pick the game up 6 months from now used for cheap. On line I went into a public game and the two races I ran were nothing but slam fests, not my kind of racing. I was also disappointed there are only two views.

The game looks great, the cars handle ok and look nice. I enjoy slamming into a cop and then going on a run for my life. The A.I. competition seemed well balanced. Again I'll grab it used later down the road a bit.
