I've come across the same problem recently. Played four games 0-0 and then, in the fifth game, I finaly managed to score and won the match 6-1. I don't know if the AI respectively the GK gets better...

This may be the case because they announce it some minutes before the match ends. If you have a player that scores or assists before the end, this might change eventually.

I just checked. The top six teams out of both conferences get a playoff spot. Before 2k15 it was the top eight, so keep going for the 6th position ;)

Nope, it's not possible. I started a career with 2nd league side Karlsruher SC in Germany and the RB in the starting formation was a CDM so I just left him there. Technically you can put anybody...
