I just got NHL 11, should I download the patch?

I plan on only playing BPM. I heard that the patch screws up your XP. Is the gameplay fine if I don't download the patch, or do I have to download it to fix some major bugs?

I don't know where to ask this question because be a pro mode isn't just specific to one sport. I've played NBA 2k11, MLB 2k11 and Top Spin 4, but I have yet to play any other sports games.

Does the game end after you level up to 20? I know I'm late to the party, but this game is awesome, and I'm not even a fan of tennis.
