Well the fact is, he was a 5 star recruit and he redshirted. I don't keep tabs on all players. UNLV even had a scholarship freshman redshirt THIS year. It isn't totally bogus to redshirt incoming...

As far as redshirting reserves, it is more common with bigger name programs than people think. Take for instance Brian Butch from Wisconsin....
