SEA OF RED

Season Outlook:

After two successful Maddens in '11 & '12, Rudy struggled to put together any type of playoff run in Madden '13. Rudy made the playoffs 2 out of 3 seasons in the SFL last year and didn't record a playoff victory. Which is quite different from what the fans in Kansas City are use to when it comes to Chiefs and Playoffs. Now that Madden 25 has entered our lives we expect the Chiefs to be a prime AFC contender as they have been but also entertain us for more than one week in the post season.

Key Players:

HB Jamaal Charles
WR Dwayne Bowe
RT Eric Fisher (First overall pick)
SS Eric Berry
CB Brandon Flowers
MLB Derrick Johnson
OLB Tamba Hali
OLB Justin Houston
DT Dontari Poe

Chiefs Schedule:

Week 1 @ Jacksonville
Week 2 VS Dallas
Week 3 @ Philadelphia
Week 4 VS New York G
Week 5 @ Tennessee
Week 6 VS Oakland
Week 7 VS Houston
Week 8 VS Cleveland

Week 10 BYE
Week 11 @ Denver
Week 12 VS San Diego
Week 13 VS Denver

Week 1 @ Jacksonville

SEA OF RED

Game Note: Tamba Hali out with broken hand

Recap: Chiefs 23 Jacksonville 20

The start of the Chiefs season got off to a rocky start. Jags were putting it on KC as the Chiefs were looking for answers offensively. Chiefs were turning the ball over and had 3 and outs that plagued them for 3 first half points. Jacksonville had the lead at intermission 17-3. In the second half KC outscored Jacksonville 20-3 and took the victory with a game winning 54 yard FG by Ryan Succop to ice the week one win.

KC Key Players and Stats:
Alex Smith 20-35, 249, 2-1
Dwayne Bowe 3-60, 2

Dunta Robinson (AFC Player of the Week) - 7 Tak, 1 Sk, 2 INTS and the game winning interception to put the chief in FG position to win the game.

Next Week: Dallas Cowboys (0-1) @ Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)

Preview: Dallas doesn't have an owner. Who cares.

Week 2 VS Cowboys

SEA OF RED

Game Note: Tamba Hali out with Broken Hand (1 more week)

Recap: Chiefs 33 Cowboys 16

Dallas doesn't have a coach, so they are terrible. Chiefs had a total of 6 INTS defensively, 2 of which by Brandon Flowers. Despite Alex Smith being terribly inaccurate and throwing 3 INTs, the Chiefs defense saved the day by creating turnovers themselves.

KC Key Players and Stats:

Brandon Flowers 2 INTs
Dwayne Bowe 9-150, 1

Preview Next Week:
Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) @ Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)

Philadelphia has been putting points on the board, Desean Jackson has been putting up video game like numbers. Can the Chiefs get pressure on the QB and stop the passing attack? Shady has been eating yards on the ground, can the Chiefs front 7 stop a premier running back without Tamba Hali?

Week 3 @ Philadelphia

SEA OF RED

Game Note: Tamba Haili out with Broken hand (last week). Will Alex Smith continue struggles after week 2's three interceptions.

Recap: Kansas City Chiefs 14 Philadephia Eagles 36

The reason why the Chiefs are 2-0 was because of turnovers, they have forced the most interceptions in the league thus far and have won the T.O battle with no problem. That all changed week 3 at Philadelphia. Kansas City could not do anything right. Wide outs struggled running routes, Alex Smith couldn't throw anywhere close to his targets and the wide receivers couldn't catch a pass. When they did catch it, it seemed like they fumbled every time. Jamaal Charles had 4 receptions but would not be surprised if he recorded more drops. Jenkins, McCluster, and Charles all lost a fumble, Alex Smith finished with a QB rating of 11, going 3-10 with 3 interceptions. Rudy put in rookie QB Tyler Bray from Tennessee who did a little better but not much. Nothing went right and the Chiefs defense did a pretty good job considering the situations they were put in and the time they were on the field.

KC Key Players and Stats:
Alex Smith 3-10, 26, 0-3
Tyler Bray 19-34, 311, 1-2
Dwayne Bowe 6-104, TD
Justin Houston INT
Brandon Flowers INT
Derrick Johnson INT

Chiefs had 7 turnovers overall.

Rudy's Quote: "Awful. Worst game I've ever been apart of. Not sure why Alex Smith can't throw accurately, and I'm not sure why we can't hang on to the ball."

Chiefs defense played well, but as Philly's LBs were making interceptions, Chiefs were dropping theirs, in the likes of Eric Berry, Kendrick Lewis and Brandon Flowers.

"It was just one of those games. We'd like to have that one back."

Week 4 Preview:
New York Giants (2-1) @ Kansas City Chiefs (2-1)

Giants have a good coach and Rudy knows he's in for a battle. Both teams have playoff hopes but only 1 can come out 3-1 to end the first quarter of the season. Look for Chiefs to start rookie Tyler Bray and look for Jamaal Charles to get more touches to take less pressure of the QB. Tamba Hali will change the defensive strategy in every sense. Having Tamba opposite of Houston will help the pass rush and allow the playmakers in the secondary to do their job.*** Chiefs have not started any game with the lead thus far.

Week 4 Vs New York Giants

SEA OF RED

Game Note: Tamba Hali makes his return. Tyler Bray gets the start over struggling Alex Smith.

Recap:

The beginning of the Tyler Bray era has started....well, at least for now. Tyler Bray records his first victory as a starting NFL QB and looked like he had been doing it for years. Bray recorded a QB rating of 126.2 and threw for a total of 235 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no turnovers. What helped Bray in this important home game was the Jamaal Charles factor, who recorded 156 yards on the ground. Jamaal busted out two runs over 35 yards and one being 48.

KC Key Players and Stats:

Jamaal Charles 16-156, 2
Dwayne Bowe 6-76, 1
A.J Jenkins 3-74, 1

Tamba Hali in his return recorded 5 tackles, one of which was for a loss. Justin Houston benefited the most out of Hali's return by recording two sacks of his own, his first two of the year.

Rudy's Quote: "It was good to see Bray step in and make an impact right away. The team responded and we got the win at home."

Chiefs struggled to stop the ground game, as they gave up over 100 yards rushing.

Next Week Preview:

Kansas City Chiefs (3-1) @ Tennessee Titans (1-3)

Will the talented front 7 of KC step up and hold Chris Johnson? Pause? Maybe.

Week 5 @ Tennessee

SEA OF RED

Game Note: KC's front 7 vs Chris Johnson

Recap:

Going into this game, KC's front 7 just gave up 100 yards rushing to the New York Giants. This week they shut down the factor of Chris Johnson and Tennessee struggled to do anything offensively. Johnson was held to just 60 yards on 23 attempts. Tyler Bray threw for a career high 389 yards while talleying a touchdown and interception. Dwayne Bowe had a monster game of 171 yards on 6 catches which allowed receivers like Jenkins and Avery to get open on the under routes. It is apparent however, that Tyler Bray can certainly make all the throws.

KC Key Players and Stats:

Jamaal Charles 10-70, 1
Dwayne Bowe 6-171, 0
A.J Jenkins 4-93, 1
Justin Houston & Tamba Hali 7 tak, 2 for a loss (each)

Rudy's Quote: "It was a game we had to have. Tennessee is struggling right now and we had to get that win. Next week will be another big game for us as Oakland pays us a visit at ARROWHEAD."

Preview Next Week:

Oakland Raiders (3-1) **play SD(2-2) in week 5 @ Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)

Oakland has been the surprise team of the year in the SFL, with Tomb Song and his offense, he has managed to score under 40 points one out of the four games this year. The key match up will certainly be KC's Defense vs Oakland's high octane offense.

Week 7 vs Houston

SEA OF RED

Game Note: Get Jamaal Charles going early and often.

Game Recap:

The Houston Texans came into Arrowhead and left with a win. Kansas City suffers their first home loss of the year, falling to the Texans last Sunday 30-27. Kansas City has been pretty good at running the football having Jamaal Charles near the 6.0 ypc avg for most of the season. Houston came in and would have none of that. JJ Watt absolutely dominated the Kansas City offensive line. Watt was spinning, bull rushing, jumping, you name it, and thats how he got through. At one point in the game it looked as if JJ Watt pushed over all 5 offensive lineman before deciding to take down the QB in a matter of seconds. Chiefs WRs struggled to beat press coverage and Jamaal Charles was stuffed at the line with no room at all. JJ WATT finished with 6 tak with three sacks.

Tyler Bray ended up tossing for 331 but don't let that fool you, he had to throw the ball for the lack of a running game.

Rudy's Quote:
"When they put all 11 guys in the box, you can't run. When they put all 11 guys in the box and you can't pass, then you have a problem." said Rudy

Dwayne Bowe seemed to be the only receiver that could get any breathing room as he finished with 6 catches for 144 yards and 2 TDs.

KC Key Players and Stats:

Tyler Bray 331 19-36, 2-4
J. Charles 12-20
Dwayne Bowe 6-144, 2
Eric Berry 6 Tak, INT, 2 PDef

Next Week Preview:

Cleveland Browns (0-7) @ Kansas City Chiefs (5-2)

Cleveland just traded away their most dangerous weapon, and Brandon Weeden has been struggling all year. Look for the KC front 7 to create pressure and Turnovers.

Week 8 vs Cleveland

SEA OF RED

Game Note: Kansas City comes back with Alex Smith as the starter..............what?

Game Recap:

Chiefs barely escape with a 32-30 victory that required a 2 point coversion stop and security of an on-side kick in the final seconds.

Wow, Cleveland, despite their 0-7 record, came in and put up a fight in KC. One would think that with the lack of Gordon, KC would be dominant in this game, however that was not the case. Chiefs, who are known for their zone blitzes and very little man to man coverage struggled putting anything together to stop Brandon Weeden. Even though KC did force some T.O's (about time) Cleveland was still able to hang around due to KC's lack of offensive ability in the redzone. Kansas City kicked a Chiefs record 6 FG's in this game and thankfully Succop managed to make all 6 including 2 from 50+.

Alex Smith played wonderful in his return, posting a QB rating of 101.9. He was accurate, mobile, and threw the ball decent down the field. This is the Alex Smith we were expecting to see, accurate and less turnovers.

The distrubing part of this game was that the Chiefs failed to record a quarterback tackle. At one point KC was sending Hali, Houston, Berry, and DJ along with the front 3 lineman and still could not get to the quarterback. How do you send 4 pro bowlers and not record a sack? This could be troubling going further into the season.

As Cleveland's O-line withstood the pressure, Weeden was finding holes for his quick WR's and was on the money (for the most part). Pause?

Rudy's Quote:

"Glad we got out of here with a win. I felt like we had control the whole time, but kicking that many FGs eventually catches up to you."

About the lack of QB pressure:

"It's something we're working on. Not sure what else we can do, but decent players will dice us up in a zone if we are sending blitzers with no pressure, and that's exactly what Cleveland did."

KC Key Players and Stats:

Alex Smith 371, 22-33, 1-1
Jamaal Charles 13-63, 1
D. Bowe 8-108, 1
A.J Jenkins 5-133, 0
Kendrick Lewis 7 Tak, INT
Justin Houston INT
Brandon Flowers INT
Ryan Succop 6/6 FG

Next Week Preview:

Kansas City Chiefs (6-2) @ Buffalo Bills (4-3)

Kansas City has yet to put together a full game. By that I mean, a good defensive showing along with a good offensive gameplan. Look for Kansas City to get better as the season goes along. Chiefs will try to create seperation from Oakland, San Diego and Denver @ Buffalo next week.
