Jets happy with QB Smith's play; unhappy with record

Jordan C.
Sideline Football League

If you're relying on a second year quarterback to carry you on the offensive end, you wish for nothing better than a great start from him. New York Jets' quarterback Geno Smith has given it all he's got and found his rhythm early.

The second year man out of West Virginia has led the Jets to a 1-2 start through the first three games, but these losses cannot be pinned on Smith's play.

Smith has thrown for a total of 607 yards so far this season, finding the end zone four times, while giving it away to his opponents only once.

Stumbling out of the gate isn't a good sign for the Jets moving forward as two of their division rivals, the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots have yet to lose a game this season.

The Jets won't open up their division play until week eight when they take on the Buffalo Bills, so they have some time to right their wrongs and put things in place for a run at the top spot.

You have plenty of time to get the ship headed in the right direction.

Smith & Co. pick up win in first divisional match-up.

Jordan C.
Sideline Football League

Ever since Week 4, New York Jets' quarterback Geno Smith just hasn't looked the same. Smith turned the ball over a total of eight times over the past two weeks, but looked to turn things around with the New England Patriots coming up.

Smith played a very smart game, turning the ball over only once, but also only completing eight passes on the night. His biggest play came in the dying moments of the ball game where he found wide receiver, Jalen Saunders for an 80-yard touchdown. This would be Saunders only catch on the night.

Though Smith's play was much better than his last two weeks, it's clear that his job isn't safe. With a tougher schedule arising, as the Jets take on the Buffalo Bills (6-1) and Kansas City Chiefs (7-0) within the next two weeks, a veteran signal caller like Michael Vick could just be the edge this New York team needs.

New York may not have been bolstered by the play of their 2nd-year man, but the play of their defense was over the top this week against the Patriots.

Rushing the passer was not a problem for the Jets' front-seven, as they recorded seven sacks on the night, with cornerback Ellis Lankster tossing in one of his own.

That wasn't the only thing the front-seven could get done en route to a 19-14 victory. Linebacker David Harris closed out the first half with a clutch defensive play, picking off Tom Brady and bringing it home for six.

In order for the Jets' to be successful moving on into week 8, this defense must keep up this intensity and Geno Smith will have to get a hold of his offense, potentially getting running back Chris Johnson more involved.
