There will be some updated rules and keep in mind that they are effectively immediately.
These are the rules for the SFL Madden online franchise. It would be very wise to make sure you read through the rules and ask any questions you may have. I've divided the rules by sections for easier reading, please take the time to read all the rules. Thanks and good luck!!


Basic Rules

There are some basic rules to abide by in the Sideline Football League. It is important all owners follow these rules so they do not have to be warned or removed from the league. They are:
- Be courteous to all owners. Just because you didn't win your game doesn't mean it's time to argue with people or stray from the league. Take the league for what it is worth, a fun experience with fellow gamers and fans of football.
This includes during games as well. If you use a microphone please keep the context PG-13. Do not use vulgar language or threatening language towards your opponent. Any issues, report them to TheTruth1566 (SFL commish), Jturk214, xxBatman26xx, CyphaDaGAWD or Im ur pops.

- Be active. You must participate to be a member of this league. That does not just mean show up each game and play. That means being a part of the community and the league. Talk with the owners, post on the boards, vote on the polls, schedule your games or you may just find yourself replaced one day.

- Be Sim. Follow the rules of the game. Just because you found a glitch play doesn't mean you are allowed to use it. Play online vs mode if you enjoy that. This is a sim league so un-sim players will not be tolerated.

- Be Responsible. Make sure you communicate with your opponent when you will play your game. Make sure you have the correct time (EST, CST, PST) as well as date. As soon as you finish a game you should be communicating with your next opponent when the game will occur. If you can not make your game, let your opponent and an admin know so we can react. Laziness will not be tolerated.

-Upon joining the league, you must create a custom coach.

-Custom playbooks are allowed.


If you're lucky enough to have a computer game or an opponent go on auto for you now or in the future, keep in mind that this is a simulation football league and stat padding will be frowned upon. With saying that, if you're not playing a human opponent, you are to not score anymore than 52 points. That will be the maximum going forward. The NFL hasn't had a 58 point game in a couple of seasons now. So keep this in mind in the future. Thanks.
In the event that you break the scoring threshold, be prepared to have players suspended on your team. The length of the suspension will be determined by the administration.


1. Game play Rules


1. 4th Downs - In regards to 4th downs; If it is 4th and 1 or shorter and you are atleast on your opponent's 40 yard line, YOU ARE ALLOWED to try and convert.
If it's 4th and 2 or longer, you are typically going to punt it unless it is a realistic situation. A realistic situation being it's the 4th quarter and you are losing. Anything other than this is generally unacceptable.


2. Game play exploitation: -No ZIG-ZAGGING whatsoever.

-Multiple motions per play. Not allowed. -Abusing Hot Routes. Not allowed.

-Rolling out with the QB excessively,excessive dropbacks with your QB, etc. Not allowed. -Abusing certain plays/money plays.

-No moving additional players back to defend in punt coverage -No running the score up. (hum/cpu) if you are up by 2 possessions late, don't still be airing it out please.

-One Fake Punt per game

-One Fake FG per game

-2 POINT CONVERSIONS
Your coach can decide to go for the 2-pt conversion after a TD, whenever they deem fit.

No HUDDLE

- Excessive use of the no-huddle is strictly prohibited.
Running the No-Huddle is allowed when you're trying to change the tempo or pace of the game. You are not allowed to run No-Huddle more than 3 times in a row.
If you choose to run No-Huddle, you must run atleast 2 plays back-to-back from the huddle before going back into the No-Huddle.
During the No-Huddle, if the defense audibles, you MUST WAIT for them to get set before the offense can snap the football.

-No QUICK SNAPPING. Rushing your offense to the line of scrimmage and not allowing the defense to get set is strictly prohibited. Whenever you motion a player allow the corner/linebacker/safety to get set before hiking the football. Ideally, you should be waiting atleast 5 seconds for your opponent to get himself together on defense before the offense snaps the football.

-No "F.A.G." defense. There has to be at least 3 defenders rushing the passer at all times.

- Defensive Line usage ===> You cannot control a defensive lineman presnap, but you are able to control an OLB (ROLB/LOLB) or other blitzer (CB, SS, FS) at the line of scrimmage.

-Presnap, you're NOT allowed to move more than one person around and if so, you must control him. This is to prevent Nano blitzes amongst other things.

-You are NOT ALLOWED to switch to a defender on defense while the football is in the air.
However, after the hand-off or pass, you ARE allowed to switch to the nearest player to make a tackle if you so choose.

-When your runner (the ball-carrier) is on the sideline boundary, you are allowed to use the Left analog (LS) to straighten up your running so he can run down the sideline. This is the ONLY time the LS will be tolerated. Any other cuts should be used with the right analog.




------ RUNNING UP THE SCORE ------

If you're winning by multiple scores and have the football with four minutes or less remaining and your opens concedes, run out the clock.However, If your opponent is calling timeouts to get the football back, the winning player is allowed to advance the football at will.If your opponent cannot stop the clock you must kneel and end the game NO EXCEPTIONS.

If the winning participant is still running up the score after his opponent has basically conceded the game, the winning player will be punished for this infraction.Infractions will be sorted out by the league office and can result in said player going on autopilot/having multiple players being put on auto or both.

------ Off-Season Rules-----

You are now allowed

-2 Trades in the Off-Season and 2 Trades during the Season. This will be effective immediately.

-In division trades are allowed

-1st round draft picks can not be moved for atleast one season



------ Draft Day Rules -------

In the 1st rd you are only allowed to pick players projected rounds 1-3
In the 2nd, you are only allowed to pick 2-4
3rd: 3-5
4th: 4-6
5th: 5-7
6th: 6-UDFA
7th: 7-UDFA
You can draft players that falls past their projection. Exp: A 1st rd projection that falls to the 3rd round is ok to draft.
Any player drafted while reaching will be dropped and will stay in Free Agency until the following off-season where said player can be bid upon in Free Agency.
