Panthers down Vikings with late rally; secure 20-17 victory.

Week 3 - Bank Of America Stadium

Bouncing back after a loss is rarely easy in the NFL, but throw that team in front of their home crowd and the pressure seems to lessen. The Carolina Panthers, hosting a 1-1 record following last week's loss to the San Francisco 49ers, hosted the Minnesota Vikings in this week three match-up.

Signal caller Cam Newton looked to continue his impressive campaign, walking into Carolina with a total of 6 touchdowns (2 passing, 4 rushing) on the season.

Early on the Panthers looked distraught, giving up the games first touchdown to Adrian Peterson on the opening drive of the afternoon. Carolina was able to answer back with some points of their own, only finding three instead of pay-dirt.

The Panthers were able to limit Sam Bradford this week, allowing only 166 yards of offence through the air and forcing two interceptions while giving up a single score.

Carolina found themselves struggling in the red-zone, unable to punch it in for 6 on multiple occasions, but Cam Newton took matters into his own hands in the second half.

Newton lead two scoring drives in the fourth quarter, scoring from inside the 10 through the air twice, finding Jonathan Stewart and eventually Ed Dickson for the game winning TD.

Newton and company now look ahead to their week four match up against Hitman and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Notable Performers

Passing
C. Newton - 383 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT
S. Bradford - 166 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs

Rushing
J. Stewart - 17 Att, 56 Yards (3.2 AVG)
A. Peterson - 8 Att, 60 Yards (7.5 AVG). 1 TD

Receiving
E. Dickson - 6 Rec, 63 Yards, 1 TD
J. Stewart - 5 Rec, 42 Yards, 1 TD
K. Benjamin - 5 Rec, 91 Yards
T. Ginn Jr - 5 Rec, 71 Yards

S. Chandler - 5 Rec., 53 Yards

Panthers head into Bye Week at 3-3 following win over New Orelans

Week 6 - Mercedes Benz Superdome

The Carolina Panthers have been out of wack since the season first began, starting off hot with a big victory over the Denver Broncos, only to slow down week by week.

Coming into New Orleans and leaving with a win is never a given, but the Panthers were able to pull it out, leaving them at an even 3-3 record before taking the week off. Carolina will have to use this week to refuel and reload in order to get back on track over these next 10 weeks.

Panthers' head coach Jordan Charles has been very vocal about his teams recent performance, while some very positive, other departments are being challenged, especially the play of Cam Newton through the air.

Here's a look at some notable Panthers through 6 games.

Passing

C. Newton - 120/186 (60% Comp.), 1,712 Yards, 10 TDs, 9 INTs

Rushing

J. Stewart - 83 Att, 207 Yards (2.5 AVG), 2 TDs
C. Newton - 31 Att, 61 Yards (2.0 AVG), 5 TDs

Receiving

K. Benjamin - 33 Rec, 601 Yards (18.2 AVG), 2 TDs
E. Dickson - 27 Rec, 431 Yards (16.0 AVG), 2 TDs
D. Funchess - 17 Rec, 212 Yards (12.5 AVG), 2 TDs
T. Ginn Jr. - 16 Rec, 220 Yards (13.8 AVG). 2 TDs
J. Stewart - 12 Rec, 101 Yards (8.4 AVG), 1 TD

The Panthers' offence will re-acquire a familiar face coming off their week 7 bye as Tight End Greg Olsen will return to the field. One of Newton's favourite targets has been sidelined since the pre-season with a partial ACL tear and back-up Ed Dickson has been starting in his place.

Dickson has been impressive to say the least up until this point, coming in 2nd in team receptions, yards and touchdowns only behind Kelvin Benjamin. Carolina will likely look to give Olsen the targets Dickson was given in the past, but won't weed him out of the offence completely.

The return of Olsen may be just what this Panthers' offence needs in order to strive, giving Newton another big target to hit and another big blocker to open up lanes for the struggling Johnathan Stewart and coach Charles' remains optimistic that his Panthers will be headed to the post-season once again.

Rams score 28 unanswered; defeat Panthers 28-7

Week 9 - Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

In an effort to keep their heads above water the Carolina Panthers travelled to Los Angeles to take on the new look Rams. Sitting at 4-3 before this match-up Carolina was in position to make a push into the wildcard race.

An early turnover by the Panthers looked to prove costly as the Rams took advantage and drove down the field. Carolina's stingy defence mustered together and was able to void the Rams' scoring chance with a turnover of their own.

The ensuing drive by the Panthers resulted in a big play touchdown when Cam Newton found Ted Gin Jr, who was able to evade two defenders on his way to pay dirt.

Unfortunately for Carolina this was the point where the Rams were no longer putting their foot on the brakes. Los Angeles' Quarterback, Jared Goff delivered some air mail of his own, connecting with his Tight End to return the favour.

Los Angeles and Carolina both dug it out on defence but the Rams were able to find the end zone a single time in each quarter moving forward, taking this one with a score of 28-7.

Notable Performers

Passing

C. Newton (CAR) - 21/31, 298 Yards, 1 TD, 3 INTs
J. Goff (LA) - 17/25, 402 Yards, 4 TDs, 3 INTs

B. Annen (LA) - 3 Rec, 143 Yards, 2 TDs
G. Olsen (CAR) - 3 Rec, 43 Yards
K. Benjamin (CAR) - 3 Rec, 52 Yards

Carolina blues continue; Panthers fall flat in front of home crowd

Kansas City's secondary shined in week 10 with 2 interceptions

Week 10 - Bank Of America Stadium

After falling to a 4-4 record last week with loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the Carolina Panthers headed home to prepare for a match-up against the surging Kansas City Chiefs.

Out the gate the Panthers' stumbled, giving up a touchdown on the opening drive and being put in an early hole. Carolina was able to rally back and put some points on the board with an early field goal, but for the second straight week their offense struggled.

The Chiefs were able to control the pace of the game and keep momentum on their side up until the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Holding onto a fair lead the Chiefs turned on the cruise control and allowed the Panthers to find the end zone twice, but still came out ontop by a score of 30-20.

Notable Performers

C. Newton (CAR) - 19/33, 317 Yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs

A. Smith (KC) - 19/27, 317 Yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs

Season Review: Panthers looking to reload heading into 2017

Cam Newton is looking to regain his MVP form in 2017

Pre-Draft - Panthers WarRoom

The Carolina Panthers certainly didn't let something like a "super bowl hangover" affect them as the 2016-17 season began faster than it came to a close. Sporting a 10-6 record at the end of the season the Panthers were sitting pretty, looking as if they were a shoe-in for a playoff spot, only to be beat out by the Dallas Cowboys for the final wildcard.

Ending the season on a good note the Panthers were able to defeat their divisional rivals, the Atlanta Falcons. Coach Truth and his boys in red have had a vice grip on the crown of this division and there was no passing of the throne this past season.

In an effort to re-tool their defense the Panthers have brought in veterans Charles Johnson and Quentin Coples to help create pressure on the edge, an area in which they suffered in their most recent campaign.

Longtime Panther and one half of a two headed attack a few seasons ago, Jonathan Stewart found father time battling him more than ever this past season. Stewart seemed as if only a shell of himself and the Panthers need more production out of this Oregon product. To bolster their run game the Panthers also brought in former Baltimore Raven, Terrance West, hoping to spark the run game once again.

Carolina has a lot of holes to fill in this upcoming draft and added an extra pick from the Seattle Seahawks just a few hours ago, with needs on both sides of the ball the Panthers are simply looking for the best available talent this evening.

End Of Season Stats

Quarterback

C. Newton - 329/505 (65%), 4,970 Yards, 34 TDs, 26 INTs - 90 Att., 300 Yards, 7 TDs

Running Back

J. Stewart - 219 Att, 673 Yards (3.1 AVG), 6 TDs
C. Artis-Payne - 54 Att, 131 Yards (2.4 AVG), 1 TD

Receiving

K. Benjamin - 75 Rec, 1,399 Yards, 13 TDs
T. Ginn Jr. - 59 Rec, 1,218 Yards, 8 TDs
D. Funchess - 52 Rec, 612 Yards, 3 TDs
G. Olsen - 44 Rec, 647 Yards, 2 TDs
E. Dickson - 39 Rec, 568 Yards, 3 TDs

If anyone needed to point the finger at the streakiest part of this Panthers team last season it would have to been the defense. With a hungry captain in Luke Kuechly the leadership was never in question, but hosting a slew of rookie defensive backs is never easy.

The names of James Bradberry and Daryl Worley quickly became household within the organization with the Stanford product in Bradberry recording the second most tackles for the squad and Worley ranking within the top 3 in interceptions.

Time will be of the essence for these young DBs, but as far as things have come the future is bright for these two.

Defensive

T. Boston - 104 Tackles (59 Solo), 5 INTs
J. Bradberry - 91 Tackles (49 Solo), 0.5 Sacks, 2 INTs
K. Coleman - 88 Tackles (41 Solo), 2.5 Sacks, 2 INTs
L. Kuechly - 82 Tackles (38 Solo), 1.0 Sack, 14 INTs
T. Davis Sr. - 63 Tackles (28 Solo), 3.0 Sacks, 4 INTs
D. Worley - 38 Tackles (21 Solo), 2.5 Sacks, 4 INTs
C. Johnson - 42 Tackles (18 Solo), 7.5 Sacks
K. Ealy - 39 Tackles (16 Solo), 6.0 Sacks
K. Short - 44 Tackles (19 Solo), 5.0 Sacks
