A Rising Storm in the North | Cheese's Eastern Michigan Dynasty

    Prologue:
Most of you already know me but for those who don't I am Cheese2121. I am an avid football fan. I follow the Virginia Tech Hokies, Buffalo Bills and the Atlanta Falcons. I will be taking on the persona of Dan Clayton (this is not my real name) the new head coach at Eastern Michigan. I love doing these projects and I have definitely learned a lot and continue to do so. I was a longtime lurker on VSN and on the sportsgamer forums before that. I've always enjoyed reading franchise stories dating back to the RockUrSocks's Raiders and Bucs franchises. As always any constructive criticism is welcome, I am constantly searching for new ways to improve my franchise reporting. I am doing this for my enjoyment and hope that you will enjoy it as well. I will warn you right now, updates may be incredibly slow at times as I am in veterinary school and some weeks can barely find time to breathe. That being said, I do intend on keeping this going for a long time. I have been inspired by many of you and in turn would like to extend a special thank you to the following users: Deegeezy, Tearz49ers, Woy, RockUrSocks, mjhyankees, JohnnyU, Matt10, mfbmike, Lumpkin, G-Force, ChillCavern, DJ Rhude, Dal Reborn, and many many more. I would also like to thank brady2moss, Agent, franchise and blorbz1 for putting together all of my banners. As always guys, give me a chance to post my introduction things before posting, I'll let you know when. Without any further ado I would like to welcome you to A Rising Storm in the North | Cheese's Eastern Michigan Dynasty...Thank you for following and I hope you enjoy.

    Dynasty House Rules

    Dynasty Rule Book

    Personal Statement
This franchise will be as realistic as I can possibly make it. Almost all of my settings will be on Heisman. I chose Eastern Michigan for a variety of reasons. Most of my family comes from the Michigan area and has close ties /works at both Michigan State and the University of Michigan. I wanted the challenge of a truly struggling program that has never known winning in recent years. Toss in the added possibility of some inclement weather and needless to say the storylines are already beginning to write themselves in my mind. As I said in the prologue, sometimes updates could be very slow due to school and a million other things. Don't expect lots of games to be churned out quickly. I would much rather take my time. This report will be about quality before quantity. Please don't bash others in my thread. I welcome criticism as always but I would like not to have arguments and such going on in here. I am a very laid back guy and am not here to argue/fight with anyone. I would love to hear your opinions/criticisms but I don't want people getting attacked on my thread. This is for fun, let's try to keep it that way. Thank you for following and once again welcome and I hope you enjoy.

Why NCAA ’12: If you have followed my work in the past, you may remember I actually ran an Eastern Michigan dynasty on NCAA ’12 back in the day. However, it was never completed and was always a story I felt still had a lot left to give. Rather than resume the series, I have decided to completely restart it (i.e. all of this is new and from scratch). NCAA ’12 is one of my favorite football games of all time and I have settings that seem to work great for me. I still get chills when the intro video comes…. “Another season is upon us…”

    Dynasty Settings

    Game:NCAA 12 on Xbox 360
    Skill Level: Heisman
    Recruiting Difficulty: Heisman
    Sliders: See rules amendment log.
    Quarter Length: 9 minutes
    Game Speed: Normal
    Speed Threshold: 25
    Penalty Sliders: Default
ALL EMU GAMES WILL BE PLAYED NO SIMMING

    Recruiting Rules

-There will be no firm restrictions on who can and cannot be recruited initially. It is the hope that with the recruiting difficulty set on Heisman, it will be extremely difficult to have unrealistic recruiting classes. Keeping in mind that Eastern Michigan should have a very difficult time landing strong recruits.

-If it is clear, that recruiting has become too easy for the user than restrictions will be implemented as to how many players of each caliber can be recruited and what the interest level must be.

-As a general rule of thumb, when recruiting I will target positions of need and hometown/pipeline players first. A strong emphasis will be placed on recruiting realistically (ie. I won't be going after the 5-Star running back from Texas who has no interest in me initially). If I don't have a kicker for next year, chances are he will be near the top of my board, etc. I will almost always target only players who have some level of interest in my school already.

    Redshirting

    - Redshirts can be used at my discretion, although keeping with the emphasis on realism. Redshirts will rarely be used on players other than freshmen.

    Players Leaving/Transferring

    - Players can leave and transfer to my school without interference. That is to say, if a player wants to leave he cannot be talked into staying and all transfers in will be accepted.

-No player may be talked into staying who wishes to leave for the NFL draft.

    Rules Amendment Log
-Season 3 (2013): Recruiting and scheduling restrictions implemented allowing for only ten players on the recruiting board at one time. See post #340 for full breakdown.

-Season 5 (2015) prior to Bowl Game: Sliders increased for CPU, QB accuracy (50), pass blocking (60), WR catching (60), RB ability (60), run blocking (65), pass coverage (60), pass rush (60), interceptions (45), rush defense (70), tackling (60), FG accuracy (60), punt accuracy (60)

-Season 7 (2017) prior to Game 4: Quarter length increased from 8 minutes to 9 minutes in order to increase the total number of plays per game.

ESPN: D.J. Clayton Hired as EMU Head Coach

            Updated: July 13, 2011 1:16 PM

Athletic Director Michael Gragg announced on Wednesday the hiring of D.J. Clayton to take over as head coach of Eastern Michigan.

Clayton Replaces English as Eastern Michigan Head Football Coach

            Archive

YPSILANTI, Mich. – New head coach D.J. Clayton knows he has a monumental task ahead of him as he attempts to rebuild a program that hasn't had a winning season in 13 years and who's last bowl appearance was in 1987.

Few have been successful with the Eagles football program, which most recently saw Ron English fail going 0-12 in one season with the team while giving up an average of more 38 points per game. Athletic director Michael Gragg though believes Clayton will succeed where others have failed in the past.

“Clayton has done an exceptional job working to bring numerous programs to prominence at both the collegiate and professional level. He brings a winning mentality and a professional attitude,” Gragg said in a statement.

Clayton, who was most recently the athletic director with Virginia Tech, has a long history of building up programs. His earliest work was with the Buffalo Bills, where in just three seasons he put together a winning record along with bringing home the first ever Super Bowl title in the program’s history. After leaving the Bills organization, Clayton went to take over the athletic programs at Virginia Tech. There, he enjoyed similar success taking the program to multiple BCS bowl games and victories, while bringing in some of the top recruits in the nation. Clayton faces a much more daunting task at Eastern Michigan who many analysts say will be his toughest task to date and also marks the first time he has even held a head coaching job.

Clayton was introduced as Eastern Michigan's new coach at a press conference Wednesday morning, after signing a two year contract Tuesday morning. Terms and conditions of the contract were not revealed by Gragg.

"While it is tough to say goodbye to the Virginia Tech family, I feel much at home coming to the Ypsilanti area. I have a lot of family close by and welcome the challenge this job brings with it. This program has not played at a winning level in a long time. As of today that changes now. While the process to the top will be long and at times painful, I am a believer that with enough hard work and discipline that anything can be achieved. I look forward to changing the culture of this program to becoming a team that believes it can win every time it steps onto the field," said in his introductory press conference.

Many in the audience called Clayton's opening speech motivational and promising. Clayton will have to prove he can do more than just talk though as he tries to turn around the struggling Eagles program. Among those in the audience was Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer who worked with Clayton during his time as athletic director at Virginia Tech.

"He is the kind of guy who stresses discipline and getting the little things right. I think that is what you have to do to when you are trying to get a program turned around. It starts with the little things and once you get those right you move on to bigger things and before you know it you are winning games," Beamer said. "He's a powerful presence in the locker room and the front office and I think that is exactly what this program needs. I look forward to one day coaching against him on the grid iron."

Good luck at EMU, cheese, I'll be reading. EMU has never, ever, had success in football...this is the biggest challenge you can get.

Thanks guru! I was definitely missing my NCAA fix and call me old fashioned but I loved the days before playoffs and all the different bowl games.

My family is actually all in Michigan (my dad is a professor at University of Michigan) and I have family that are both Wolverine and Spartan alums. Couple that tie in to the state, with the massive rebuilding project, the possibility of snow games, etc. etc. and I just get more and more excited about this project. Looking at the roster, it will be a massive undertaking. Hope you continue to check in and enjoy!

Of course my friend! The Jaguars franchise will definitely be continuing. I am loving that project and have every intention of keeping it going for a very long time.

I figured it was time to get back to college football and this was a team and game that have always intrigued me. I am really looking forward to having both this and my Jaguars franchise going. Hope you enjoy!

Looking forward to your dynasty, I occasionally read the dynasties sitting in the DSS forums because they were really good like BDawg and ToySoldier's work. Cool to see the nod to Virginia Tech, I went there for a couple of years (never finished because of out-of-state tuition).

I loved NCAA 12 too, though after playing NCAA 14 it's been hard to get back into it. NCAA/Madden 12 were my favorite combo in a very long time, hopefully the climb up for Eastern Michigan will be fun. I've played games with them before though I can't remember the names of anyone. Their QB seemed to be strong with the read option (though that may have been the game), and their #1 WR was fast for the MAC.

                        Good luck.

Side note: During this time period, Mike Hart was on EMU's staff, so the RBs should be playing pretty well.

Thank you for the kind words my friend and I hope you enjoy my work as much as some of the greats you mentioned. The nod to Virginia Tech is actually me incorporating some of my real life. I got my bachelor's in bio-engineering from Virginia Tech before going on to veterinary school for a doctorate (which I am currently pursuing). I grew up on Hokie football. The mention is also a nod to the last NCAA report I did which was a Virginia Tech one. Very cool too that you were a Hokie for some time but I completely understand the tuition concerns.

NCAA '12 has probably been my favorite football games of all time and I think one of the best out of the box (needing minimal slider adjustments, etc.). I loved this game during my undergraduate days and it will always hold a special place for me. I am really excited to get back to it although I am sure I will be very rusty on the sticks and controls. And yes, Kinsman Thomas (WR#1) is a beast! He will be a big part of our offense. Aside from him and a few others, we have a huge rebuilding project on our hands. Hope you continue to follow and check in!

Thank you my friend! And happy to see a Michigan man in the area. My family is all in Ann Arbor right now. My dad is a department head at Michigan actually.

This is definitely a huge rebuild project, perhaps the biggest I have ever taken on but I am excited for it (hopefully I don't get fired in the first couple of seasons!). We have two quality backs this first season in Sherrer and Welch, who I expect to lean heavily on. Should be quite the undertaking. Hope you continue to check in and enjoy!
