When I was in the store the other day they had some mock-up cartridges as a promotional device, that's probably what the photos were of

The weird thing is I kind of want to like the Giants - they have the best uniforms, a great history, Sadaharu Oh is a badass (I strongly recommend reading his book while you wait for the game release), but...my god they're such dinks. Maybe it's a product of living here and having to put up with all the stupid Giants news and promotions and vacuuming up every free agent/popular player (for moving merchandise of course) and everything. They're really forced down our throats here (it doesn't help that they're owned by a newspaper company and get free glowing coverage and special leverage over TV rights). And Tokyo Dome is garbage. Basically just the Metrodome with kanji.

They're basically the team of the postwar and economic boom generations - most of their fanbase grew up with Oh and the V8 era (eight consecutive championships) so Giants are pretty much synonymous with the older generations and establishment Japan. That or they're all fair weather fans who think Giants are somehow trendy.

That said...damn they were fun to play in the old PYS games. (I'm hanging my head now)

Fighters now have one of the best batting prospects in Japan - Kotaro Kiyomiya. He didn't have a great rookie year but I watched him in high school and he could crush the ball. One of the best homerun swings I've seen at any level of baseball.
