Players with No Special Attributes?

Hi,
I was just wondering what the point is with players that have no special attributes? I think there was some bronze QBs that had nothing. What makes them better than a generic player?

Also, along those lines is a player with more specials better than another player? If I'm picking like a bronze guard, should I always go with the guy with more special attributes? Thanks!

I think there is a hidden rating system very much like maddens. All the pre-made legends in the game have say a rating. The abilities give a boost to that area or a special move. I truly feel this because even the no ability guys can play with a legend that has 4 abilities as a bronze.

But this is all just speculation

Re: Players with No Special Attributes?

You have to go with the attribute set that fits your scheme. Okoye has a large number of abilities, but if you're running a WCO, he's the wrong guy. Tony Nathan, who just has one ability, would be a better fit.

Regarding the no-ability guys, there's lots under the hood. Reggie Cobb has deceptive speed, decent power because of his size, and isn't a bad back. I rather like him, but I'd use him in split, near, far, and single back sets more than I-sets.

Bubby is nice. He's surprisingly mobile, and is definitely an upgrade over a generic.

Brian Jones is fast at LB and has decent size so he holds up okay vs. the run, but I prefer him for his pursuit and zone abilities.

Wilcots has plus range. He won't catch the ball but can close and swat well.

Honestly, it's all trial and error. Some guys like Joe Perry, Willie Wood or Dave Wilcox are monsters with only a few abilities. One bit of advice I'd give is that D-line needs a fair amount of Abilities, if a defensive linemen doesn't have a pass-rush move (or 2) avoid them mainly because they need those moves to shed blocks.

On the O-line it is good to have a stonewall with speed and power to counter "Any" D-lineman.

This is true for CAPS, not for legends.

Deacon Jones is the best DE in the game.

Lilly is a monster, and I finally figured out L.C. Greenwood.

As far as the OP's question, it depends on the player. The attributes are meant to magnify what the player was known for, but it in no way a indicator of a player's overall skills

Lenny Moore only has quick feet, but he is a excellent run after the catch reciever with good hands, and crisp route runner with good hands.

Deron Cherry "only" has 2 attributes, and neither is particularly sexy: Loose Ball Magnet, and Special Teams Demon, but he is easily one of the top FS's in this game.

Mel Renfro never gets used because he "only" has return specialist and quick feet..but he is very good as well. He's super agile, and is really good at jumping out routes, corners and double moves because of it.

Robert Braizle only has coverage bonus, but he is the most versatile LB in the bronze teir, arguably the most versatile LB in the entire game, from a value standpoint.

Troy Drayton has no attributes, but he is really pretty darn solid.

Re: Players with No Special Attributes?

Yeah that pass rush move rule is overstated. I used to think this way too until I tried out the Deacon and LC Greenwood some more. Nobody circles the wagons like Deacon friggin' Jones. That guy has put up monster games for me more than ANY DE has even gotten close to.

I think those super quick rushes from 2nd level moves are very effective against balanced and run block OL. The moves don't have the same speed against a Pass block or legend OL. Think about it: Elvin Bethea can rack up 5 sack games against a run block OL, but put him against a pass block OL or Boselli and he's not nearly the force he's described as.

In comparison: Deacon can beat down nearly anyone, same with LC Greenwood and his speed rush.

Brister really wasn't that bad of a QB in real life. He had a big arm in Tecmo Super Bowl... 75 throwing power I've never tried him but I bet that Brister is better than Andre Ware.
