MLB 14 The Show: They Call Him "Johnny Boombatz" - Johnny Pascucci's Road to the Show

Johnny Pascucci is an 18-year old baseball player from the great State of New York and his journey to the big leagues has just begun.

As a junior in high school, Pascucci actually failed to make the cut of his varsity baseball team, but after getting a second chance, Pascucci took advantage and never looked back.

In his couple years at the varsity level, Pascucci flashed and displayed some extreme talent, even more than his coach could imagine.
Quote:
"He's a gamer. He puts everything on the line and failure is not an option for him."
- Steve Anderson, Pascucci's HS Coach
Pascucci was named the NYS Sportswriters Association High School Baseball Player of the Year in his Senior year as he hit .471 with 11 HR, 35 RBI, and 26 SB in just 24 games.

After getting an invite to compete in the Topps Amateur Showcase, Pascucci impressed the scouts and found his way into a 2nd round projection for the MLB Draft...

...where he would be selected with the 6th pick by the Seattle Mariners.

Johnny Pascucci's Scouting Report

Quote:
Body - Despite the fact that he is undersized, Pascucci has tons of strength and is an athlete.

Makeup
- Pascucci is a player who gives 110% on every play, and is praised for being a leader in the locker room. He can be super-intense, which might lead to some emotion spilling, but for the most part, Pascucci is stoic in his approach.

Hit - Aggressive swing with decent bat speed. Forearm and wrist strength allow him to spray the ball all over the field. Needs to refine approach to drawing more walks. Unlikely to be a plus/plus hitter, but should settle as a solid-average hitter. (55/60)

Power
- Surprising pop for a small stature at 5'10, 195. He hits the ball very hard and can hit tape measure shots on rare occasions. Could possibly develop more power as he grows, but with his stature it most likely will be capped. (50/60)

Arm -
Simply put he has a cannon. Truly an elite tool as he can throw it on a line from anywhere with tremendous velocity and accuracy. Has a very quick trigger, getting rid of the ball in a flash. With experience, this tool can even improve to the best in the game. (70/80)

Fielding
- Solid fielder. Has adequate speed, but a good reaction time allows for more fly balls to be run down. Routes to the ball can be a challenge, but he fits a classic right field defensive profile. (50/60)

Speed -
He exerts maximum effort leading to him seeming quicker than he really is. Base stealing not really a big part of his game, but is a smart swiper when he does go for 2nd. (60/55)

Seattle Mariners

Founded: 1977
Owner(s): Nintendo of America, represented by CEO Howard Lincoln
Ballpark: Safeco Field (1999-)

Manager: Lloyd McClendon (2014-)
GM: Jack Zduriencik (2009-)
President of Baseball Operations: Kevin Mather (2014-)

World Series Titles (0)
AL Pennants (0)

AL West Division Champions (3): 2001, 1997, 1995

Quote:
GM Zduriencik on Pascucci: "We were very pleased to draft John in the 2nd round and we believe he is the future of the Seattle Mariners. He is a humble, hard-working gentleman and I can't wait to see how he progresses through the minor leagues."

Johnny Pascucci will be starting his professional career in Double-A for the Jackson Generals based out of the Southern League in Jackson, Tennessee.

(OOC: I hope you guys enjoy this. My plan is to create highlight videos for each week/month of JP's minor league career. I don't have a capture so I will do the best I can with pictures/videos. I hope to have a ton of fun with this and I hope you come along for the ride.)

THE CAREER OF "JOHNNY BOOMBATZ" JOHNNY PASCUCCI BEGINS!!!

Entry #1

January 2nd, 2014 - After an amazing holiday with my family, it's time to pack and head to the West Coast. I can't believe I am about to begin my Double-A career in a couple short months and I'm excited for this new chapter of my life. I thought I would start this online blog to connect with you all, so thanks for reading and enjoy.

I was interviewed for a local newspaper article a couple weeks back and I reflected back on the MLB Draft. That day in June was very special. Having all of my family and friends there and seeing my mother tear up when I got the call from Seattle...man what an experience.

It hasn't been the best of starts though because after being drafted I did play in the Arizona League for a couple weeks in July until I separated my shoulder sliding head-first into home. I feel 100% now but I had to put in some extra work over the fall and winter in getting back healthy.

Now it's time to head down to Peoria, a suburb of Phoenix, to get ready for spring training. My agent Mark has already hooked me up with the airfare and in a little over a month, official team workouts will begin.

I will miss my family, but this time I hope to be there for a long time!!!

Entry #2

THE SEASON BEGINS!!!

March 30th, 2014 - Well it's a few days away from the Home Opener vs the NW Arkansas Naturals and I am stoked!!! I was able to get a couple AB's in Spring Training and even got a hit. I had a great time meeting all of my new teammates and trying to pick the brain of some major leaguers.

That Cano guy...he's kind of a jerk, but everyone else was pretty welcoming.

My manager at AA-Jackson is Jim Pankovits and surprisingly we have some ties. He used to manage the Tri-City Valley Cats, a single A affiliate of the Houston Astros, and I used to go to bunch of games with my buddies. When I mentioned it to him we hit it off so hopefully being in his good graces already will allow me to build a great relationship with him. He said I'm probably going to hit 7th or 8th in the lineup but it doesn't matter to me...

I'm just ready to mash and dash!!!

Re: MLB 14 The Show: They Call Him "Johnny Boombatz" - Johnny Pascucci's Road to the

April 3rd - April 15th, 2014

You know how your not supposed to waste any opportunity that your given...well I almost did. Remember how I said we had our home opener...well we were away and I almost overslept leading me to scurry down to the team bus only 20 minutes late.

I thought I was gonna get benched as Manager Pankovits was looking to hit me in the bottom third of the order but thankfully he gave all of us one "mulligan," not before chewing me out though.

I made up for my schedule gaffe by making my first career hit a HOMER!!! that I smoked to deep right center. Here is the shot:

After getting another single to add to the bomb, I thought everything was going to be easy after that and boy...I was wrong. Over the next 9 games, I was only able to muster 4...yes 4 hits!!!

Every single d*** time I smoked a ball, it was hit right at a fielder, like they had a gravitational pull.

It's just so frustrating but I guess I can take some solace that I've actually hit the ball really well and I've just been a little unlucky. My BABIP surely has to rise, right?

Anyway I'm not proud to admit I'm hitting .158 right now and I was even benched in a couple of games. On top of that our team is sitting in the basement right now:

In a couple days, we have a day off but the grind of the minors is already taking it's toll on a lot of us. We barely get a day off on the schedule but hopefully I can re-focus and get back on track.

Hopefully better days are coming.

April 16th - April 30th, 2014

Better days were indeed ahead!!!

After struggling for the first couple weeks, I started to make good contact with the ball, balls started to fall and oh yeah...here is another HOMER!!!

(OOC: I would make longer videos but my movie maker is messed up. For some reason while I'm working on it the clips turn black and I have to exit to start over, and it happens every minute so sorry about not being able to show off more.)

Things are going so great over these last few games that Manager Pankovits has even moved me up in the lineup for a couple games. I've been having a ton of multi-hit games and I'm just glad my average isn't anywhere close to that dreaded Mendoza Line.

The team has been stepping up its game as well and were back to an even .500 at 13-13. The homer you saw was an epic go-ahead shot in the 8th inning today and I'm starting to get a reputation of being clutch in the big moments. Just this week I have put my team ahead for good 3 times in the 7th inning or later.
