Problem not getting Paint calls. Anybody else think this is a big problem?

Its supposed to be variable umpires but every single blue 80% of the time call ball on the paint even when the whole ball is in the zone.

This hurts pitching and is very frustrating when people only have to look down the middle and dont have to protect the strick zone cuz the blue will do ut for you.

I like the varied umping. Its more realistic. I think they did a good job with it. Ive seen plenty of games IRL this year where strikes have been called balls and more so vice versa. You could change the setting to actual if it isnt your cup of tea. To me, to answer your question, no it is not a problem at all.

I live on the black and spend a lot of time hanging out off the corners. I get lotsa called third strikes with batters looking, plenty of times on pitches that could have been called a ball. In fact I cant think of any good reason to throw a pitch down the middle of the plate unless the counts 3-0. even then I sometimes get too cute and try to paint one on. if I throw down the middle its usually an accident, same as throwing a off speed pitch high in the zone.

I cant find it, but there is a thread about umpire tendencies with a spreadsheet for each umpire that may help for when your pitching. Which ones favor inside/outside, upper/lower, etc.

I feel like the issue is that the game wants the entire ball inside the lines it draws as the strike zone. But it should be any part of the ball being on/inside the lines should be called a strike

I would like to test this by turning off variable strike zones to prove the baseline for what is a strike is wrong, and then the game adds variation from there.

The game's strike zone is definitely tighter than a real strike zone. I believe it's like that because the game seems to be coded where it's much more difficult to make solid contact on balls off the plate (even with good timing). Obviously it should be more difficult, but if you're looking for a pitch in that area and are on time with it, you should still be able to hit it hard and drive the pitch. That doesn't seem to be the case as much in the game.

So if they had it where those (or even pitches that catch only a little of the zone) were getting called strikes more often, offense would be nearly non-existent.

Offence would not be non existent you would just have to protect the plate instead of the ump doing that for you.

I find it frustrating playing online ranked and i pitch wonderfully painting corners 3/4 of the ball in the zone 1/2 ball in the zone and 80% are called balls.
