Every Team. One Champion

After 100 years of incredible drama and champions. I figured it was the perfect time for a tournament like no other. A tournament where every team since the Superbowl era would have a chance to become a champion. Yes it is a long project, but due to personal reasons I will spend alot of time indoors and am looking forward to the prospect. The game I will be using is SAT version 10. Second and 10 is a great football simulation.

Some notes:

- Winner moves on loser is eliminated
- 1604 total teams
- All USFL teams from 1983 and 1984 will be included.
- 10 teams from the pre super bowl era will participate.
- Matchups will be completely random with the team with the better record playing at home
- Super bowl champions will automatically get a home game and will not be allowed to be drawn together in opening round.

There is a preliminary round of 580 games. The winners will make a total of 1024 teams which will equally go down to one champion and one super bowl.

I will keep high stats for the games with top individual performances.

Preliminary Game #1

2005 Miami Dolphins (9-7) vs 2006 St. Louis Rams (8-8)

A Classic Opener In Miami

A great football game to start off our epic tournament played itself out to the end at Dolphin Stadium in Miami. The back and forth battle came down to the 4th quarter when two Jeff Wilkins field goals gave the visitors a 26-20 lead. Gus Frerotte drove the Dolphins down to the dive yard line and had a fourth down with less than 3 minutes to play. The Rams defense stopped them and thought they had the game. On the first play from scrimmage Steven Jackson fumbled away the hand off to Zach Thomas and the Dolphins had another chance they wouldn't miss. Frerotte found Chrsi Chambers for the winning score and Miami, lead by Nick Saban, found a way to win the game.

Preliminary Game #2

1987 Cleveland Browns (10-5) vs 2012 Washington Redskins (10-6)

Redskins Raid Cleveland

Robert Griffin III helped lead a second half comeback that stunned the dog pound and the 1987 Cleveland Browns in a slight upset. The 2012 Redskins fell behind 10-0 before a defensive touchdown by Stephen Bowen on a fumble return had them back in the game. Down three at the break, the Skins put the hostile environment behind them and RGIII threw a 13 yard touchdown to Fred Davis and late dove in for a one yard score. Bernie Kosar threw for 240 yards in the first half but only 32 in the second half and a late rally for the Browns would come up short. It is a nice win for the Skins and a quarterback that has often been dismissed as injury prone and ineffective.

Preliminary Game 3

1997 Tennessee Oilers (8-8) vs 1996 New Orleans Saints (3-13)

George And Oilers Down Saints

Heavy rain fell during this one in the Liberty Bowl causing difficult conditions for both teams. However anyway you look at this matchup, it was all Titans. An early turnover caused am early Oilers touchdown as Steve McNair hit Ronnie Harmon for a touchdown from 15 yards. Eddie George would add a short plunge making the early score 14-0. Jim Everett did make his only big play of the game on a 14 yard touchdown pass in the 2nd, but the Titans defense would allow no more. The game suffered in the second half and neither team could really throw in the rain, a second half safety and another Eddie george touchdown secured the big win for Tennessee who at this time were still known as the old Oilers.

Preliminary Game 4

2012 San Diego Chargers (7-9) vs 2007 Buffalo Bills (7-9)
Chargers Flub Big Game Again

It is not always about quantity but more often about quality. Two evenly matched teams faced off in a tight battle and the unheralded quarterback lead his team over the favored one. Phillip Rivers threw for 327 yards and a pretty score to Denario Alexander for 53 yards but also threw 2 interceptions. Trent Edwards was more efficient and threw for two scores without any mistakes, his touchdown to Josh Reed in the fourth was the crucial score of the game and the win. San Diego has a sad history of not being able to win the big games, and today they came up short again never leading at any point of the game at home.
