Building True Blue --- A Buffalo Bulls NCAA 14 Dynasty
ONE OF THE NFL'S GREATEST PLAYERS COMES FROM A COLLEGE YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF...
Welcome to BUILDING TRUE BLUE, a Buffalo Bulls NCAA 14 Dynasty by smellbig
In the 2014 NFL Draft, Khalil Mack was drafted by the Oakland Raiders 5th overall out of the University of Buffalo. Through his four years at UB, his accolades include the NCAA record for forced fumbles in a career, tying the NCAA record in career tackles for loss, 327 total tackles, 75 tackles for loss, 28.5 sacks, 4 interceptions, 16 forced fumbles, 4 fumbles recovered, and 2 blocked kicks. If you knew any name out of Buffalo before this year, you knew this one.
You might remember the story of Shaquill and Shaquem Griffin, twin brothers from Florida. Shaquill was recruited by his dream team in the Miami Hurricanes, but turned down their offer, choosing instead to play at UCF with his brother Shaquem, an amputee. Both are now members of the Seattle Seahawks. Enter Jaret and James Patterson, 2 star recruits out of Laurel, MD. James received offers while Jaret didn't, but the two made it clear they were a package deal. Buffalo was the only FBS school to offer Jaret a scholarship, and it seems to have turned out pretty good for both parties...
You read that right, 8 touchdowns and 400+ yards in one game! Patterson racked up 19 touchdowns and over 1000 yards in just 6 games in the 2020-21 season, leaving scouts everywhere wondering just what exactly he might be able to do if given a full slate of games. The Bulls were ranked #23 in the nation at one point this season, their first and highest ranking ever in program history.
However, this is dynasty we're talking about, and things are quite a bit different. It's 2020, the rosters are completely random, and the NCAA conferences have been turned upside down. This team has no Jaret Patterson or his great offensive line, no Khalil Mack, and a clear lack of nationally recognized talent in a new-look MAC conference with a lot of work to do.

Game: NCAA Football 14 College Football Revamped Console: RPCS3 Difficulty: All-American; I will be simming all games, not playing them, so this may change Rosters: Randomized Quarter length: 8 minutes Game speed: Normal Speed threshold: 40 Sliders: modified J-Kits
Recruiting: I can recruit any players interested in Buff or from typical pipeline states such as New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida. At first I plan not recruit anyone over 3 stars but let's be real they're not coming to Buffalo in the first place. No scouting until after committed except for pre-season scouting. Personally I'm not a fan of the rule of adding 35 players pre-season and only using those, but I'll be limiting any adding of players to the board after week 5. Try to not over-recruit or cut any players. Everything else is fair game, trying to be realistic. Transfers: I will only ask those intending to transfer to stay if they will 100% without a doubt start the next year. I'm going to look to accept all of those who want to transfer to Buff. Players declaring: Only attempt to convince those to stay who are projected to go lower than round 3. Injuries: Inspired by this post I'm going to start out by reducing injury rating by 30 points for all offensive players and 50 for defensive. Progression: For now I'm going to leave progression the same, I don't hate it, although if any players receive suspensions (below) their progression will change. Suspensions: Every even-numbered week during the season I will roll a die. 1, 2, 3, or 4 means no suspension, 5 means a Team Rules violation, 6 means an NCAA Rules violation. Then, if I roll a 5 or 6, I'll roll again. For a Team Rules violation 1, 2, or 3 means 1 game suspension, 4 means 2 games, 5 means 3 games, and 6 means 4 games. For an NCAA rules violation, a 1 or 2 means 2 games, 3 means 3 games, 4 means 4 games, 5 means 6 games, and 6 means suspended for the whole season. I'll use an RNG from 0 to 99 to determine which player jersey number is suspended.

Re: Building True Blue --- A Buffalo Bulls NCAA 14 Dynasty
For immediate release: The University of Buffalo Bulls football team issued a press release last week indicating that they were moving on from HC Lance Leipold. His replacement was announced today, relative unknown Jennifer Welter. Welter, 43, made history in 2014 when she signed with the Texas Revolution of the Champions Indoor Football League as a runningback, making her the first woman to play a contact position in a male-dominated football league. She briefly held positions on the coaching staff of the Arizona Cardinals and Alliance of American Football's Atlanta Legends, but Welter looks to make history once again in 2020 as the first female head coach of an NCAA FBS team.
Coach Welter, a Boston College grad and psychology PhD recipient from Capella University, brings with her a diverse and experienced crew of assistant coaches. Buffalo's offensive coordinator will be fellow Boston College graduate Damien Woody, who played along the O-Line for the Patriots, Lions, and Jets, winning two Super Bowl rings, making the Pro Bowl once with over 160 starts in his career. Welter and Woody told media Friday that they were planning on instituting an Option Run offense in Buffalo. The new defensive coordinator will be former Seattle Seahawk and LA Charger defensive tackle Brandon Mebane. Mebane recently retired from the NFL after a 13-year career in which he won a Super Bowl with Seattle and made the 2007 PFWA All-Rookie Team. His technique is the 3-3-5 defense, something fans of UB football will be quite familiar with.
Welter, Woody, and Mebane are taking control of a team ranked 124th out of 126 teams in the country, with no Jaret Patterson, no Khalil Mack, and a clear lack of nationally recognized talent. The only player getting any buzz is MLB Will Greene, a preseason All-American at his position. The junior will do his best this year to keep the defense afloat against the schedule below, featuring Wyoming, Hawai'i, #22 Florida Atlantic, and Coastal Carolina as out of conference opponents.

Players to keep an eye on: Year 1
Welter's Bulls have many holes on their roster to watch for, but there are some strong spots no scout can miss. Let's take a closer look.
QB Dan Murphy: 6'3, 209 lbs, SR (RS), from Marion, NC
Murphy played alright last year as a junior, putting up 15 TDs and 2235 yards with 7 INTs and completing 197 out of 428 passes. While Murphy is indisputably better than the backups on the roster, it's clear from preseason practice that Woody and Welter are frustrated with his lack of development. Welter commented at her most recent press conference that she's looking to push Murphy more this year in her new scheme, saying a 46% completion percentage is "never going to be good enough."
FB Willie Gardner: 6'0, 232, JR, from Gadsden, AL
We get it - he's a fullback, right? How much does he really contribute? But Gardner is no joke: with the highest overall of any player on the offense in a scheme that depends on the fullback, Welter promises his skill won't go to waste. "I love a fullback run," she told media. "I'm not afraid to put him as a running back or receiver, either. The kid's got skill, we're going to use it."
WR Andy Dawson: 6'3, 201, JR, from Landen, OH
This three-star recruit is looking to break out in his first year as the #1 wide receiver on the team. Last year he averaged 11.2 yards per reception, gaining nearly 40% of his yards after the catch. "We've got something special here," Woody told the Buffalo Bulls Beat Report. "When the ball is in his hands, watch out." Dawson has had injury issues in the past, but as long as he can stay healthy, he'll be seeing the field far more this year.
MLB Will Greene: 5'10, 230, JR (RS), from Tonawanda, NY
"He might be short, but he doesn't play like it. He doesn't mess around out there, he runs like the wind, we love it." newly instated defensive coordinator Brandon Mebane told media last week. He's not the only one around the NCAA who likes what they see from Greene, as he was named to the preseason All-American team this morning. With 6.5 sacks and 6 pass deflections in his first year with the team last year as a JUCO transfer to his hometown team, Greene will be captaining the defense out on the field for Mebane this year.
CB Joel Cary: 6'0, 191, SR (RS), from Waukesha, WI
Greene won't be alone out there, however, as redshirt senior Joel Cary will be alongside him. Cary's development has been slow, with him only having 11 tackles to his name so far in his collegiate career. However, Welter couldn't say enough good words about him in her most recent press conference, saying his work ethic and drive to be good are unmatched. "He's going to play. I've seen his tape from last year and there's something there for sure. We're going to help him realize it."
