Rock was no doubt better on the mic than Austin (or anyone at the time) - his natural charisma was off-the-charts. I don't know that I'd use the term "wasn't even close" though. Both guys were able to hold the crowd in the palm of their hands (even before Austin and the aforementioned "What?!" stuff), and isn't that what it's all about?
