Re: 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Haha, I'll be back during the week. Thanks for the support so far. At least another game per series by Tuesday. It's pretty tough... I might be doing this through the offseason and into next season on the real life schedule with how far behind I am currently. Then again, as the number of teams in the field get smaller, the real life games get spaced out more and thus I'm able to catch up a bit. Not to mention when the number of teams in my playoffs dwindle, it'll go by quicker too.

Boston Ties Series 1-1 With 2-1 Win

The Boston Bruins, the East's best team, found themselves in a 1-0 series hole coming into this Game 2. But after a 2-1 win, the team was feeling good about itself.

Alexei Zhamnov got the scoring started midway through the 2nd period when he deflected a Paul Mara shot from the point through the five hole of Christobal Huet.

It looked like that goal would stand up until late in the 3rd period. Sergei Samsonov streaked down the left wing, then fired a pass to center Saku Koivu, who, instead of receiving the pass, just deflected it past Hannu Toivonen with under 2 minutes left in regulation.

But that did not take the wind out of Boston's sails. With under a minute left, Marc Savard came in on Huet with a slew of Montreal defenders chasing him. Savard faked forehand and went backhand, but Huet was equal to the task. However, Savard followed through on the rebound and poked it past Huet to regain Boston's 1 goal lead. The Bruins then went into a shell for the remaining 40 seconds and took Game 2, 2-1.

The series is tied, 1-1.

Sharks Take 2-0 Edge With 3-0 Shutout Win

San Jose takes a comfortable 2-0 series lead with a 3-0 shutout in Game 2 against the Anaheim Ducks.

The score could've been much, much worse if it wasn't for the Ducks' JS Giguere. The former Conn Smythe winner for playoff MVP (on a losing team, nonetheless) stopped 39 of the Sharks 41 shots (SJ scored an empty net goal with 6.1 seconds left).

Mark Bell scored early for the Sharks, just 1 minute and 12 seconds into Game 2. Jonathan Cheechoo's shot was well wide of the mark, purposefully, and Bell made the intended deflection that fooled Giguere completely.

Mike Grier also tallied in the 2nd period for the Sharks.

Christian Ehrhoff finished off the game with an empty net goal in the 3rd period.

The series now shifts back to Anaheim, where the Ducks need to either improve or their summer will begin early.

San Joses leads the series, 2-0.

Re: 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Caps Beat Rangers In OT Again, Lead Series 2-0

Washington, but more specifically Chris Clark, did it again. The former Calgary Flame forward found the back of the net in overtime for the second straight game as the Capitals take a 2-0 lead in their series against the New York Rangers.

Dainus Zubrus gave the Caps an early 1-0 lead when he roofed one over Henrik Lundqvist, who was so dominant in Game 1 despite the Rangers loss.

Jason Ward got that goal back, beating Olaf Kolzig to tie the game at 1. But Alexander Semin's 1st playoff goal, a highlight reel goal in which the young forward took to the air to slap the puck off Lundqvist's pad, gave Washington a 1 goal lead again.

It wasn't until midway through the 3rd period that the score sheet had to be updated. The line of Petr Prucha, Matt Cullen, and Martin Straka were dominant on their shift, forcing turnovers and general bad play out of the Washington defense and eventually the line was rewarded with a goal off the stick of Straka.

With the score deadlocked at 2, this one was going to overtime too.

But early in the period, with a powerplay that rolled over from late in the 3rd period, Chris Clark backhanded a shot from the high slot. The puck hit off a Rangers player, off Lundqvist's pad, and then crept past the red goal line to give the Capitals a 3-2 win and a 2-0 series lead.

Washington leads the series, 2-0.

Editor's Note: Changed the difficulty to Hall of Famer from All Star. I've won every game I've played besides Game 1 of the MTL/BOS series. If this doesn't work, I'll knock down the game speed as it seems the CPU plays better when the speed is slower.
