Dissecting E3 Monday: Notes of the News Stuck
Posted on June 5, 2012 at 11:49 AM.

E3 Monday's are typically busy news days -- and yesterday was no exception. I felt like the lone Texan left in the Alamo with news hitting faster than I could process it yesterday afternoon -- but after about 18 hours of contemplating, there are some themes from yesterday's news barrage that seem pretty clear...

Real Time Physics Is A Big Deal but it's not going to fix everything wrong with EA Football. The passing game will be improved and I'm sure the running game will be better with physics. Just be forewarned, while EA Football will take a huge step forward with Madden NFL 13 it's not going to cure everything that ails the series.

SHOCKER! EA has more money than THQ! At least, that was apparent when the dust settled. EA simply came to THQ and named a price for the UFC license and then got it. The person that looks most foolish in all of this: Dana White. Proof that you should never say never when it comes to business.

Connected Careers Is Either Brilliant or Will Be A Complete Disaster. That's the best way to describe it. I either see it being something that's going to change how we play sports game career modes forever or it's going to be something that is a complete and utter failure on the level not seen in a long time. I'm betting it falls towards the former with weird quirks that weren't fully thought through. I've yet to hear if retiring a player means he's gone from the league or if you simply can change on the fly. If I have to remove RG III from the NFL before deciding to coach, this mode goes downhill in a hurry.

No more NCAA Draft Classes to Madden. This is going to irk a lot of people, but given the huge wholesale changes I could understand the reasoning. EA promises they'll be back next year, but that's just a rough omission for many.

NBA 2K13 looks solid but it's slam dunk competition is the butt of many jokes. I had many a famous gaming personality making fun of the slam dunk competition on my Twitter feed last night. For good reason too, but people have to understand 2K Sports is now under immense pressure to perform and they have to make the game marketable. A hardcore basketball sim vs. a casual accessible sim won't last long in this marketplace. Especially when your parent company is looking for even the slightest of reason to drop licensed properties.

What'd all of you think about E3 Monday? Anything strike you as being big news I didn't touch on? Sound off!

i thought the same about 2k, i notice it wasn't a huge change to the presentation(you think they would since you know the other side is bring the full package of espn,so thats shocking).I also thought the dunk contest was smart to put it in the arena because they use to have it outside and we all know if the other game do decides to bring back their all star weekend that they going to do it right because they always have. The way i notice that you have to do the dunks look like you was playing guitar hero or rock band, to me takes away the fun factor as if you actually do the dunk yourself rather a preset animation is already in place. i just got to press the buttons at the right time..(boring real quick).2k keeps this up then someone will be losing another title in the next few years.

I was not happy about not seeing any nba live 13 shots at E3 but i was able to find a website of new screenshots of some of the players(looks pretty good)read a article for it and it seems they working on the graphics, presentation, gameplay and online play, best part is they is keeping the connection to nba and the game. But i would like to see some gameplay.

i think madden 13 is at huge start and im looking forward to see how this connected careers is going to work especailly since they took all of their other modes out of the game to put this huge mode in.For their sake they better hope it turns out nice. I do like that twitter thing they put in the game, think its funny to see skip bayless tweeting about something that happen on the game.

ufc from THQ to EA is huge but nervous that EA might not do a good job with the game.

This IMO should be called year of the season pass. Not sure if I want to buy NCAA, Madden or give Live another chance. Several games will be hinged on impressions a few days before the full game becomes available.

Are you sure we won't be able to import draft classes from NCAA? If this indeed true Connected Careers is already a fail this year and this just may kill NCAA Football 13. Just doesn't make sense.

I definitely don't believe RTP is a cure all for Madden's issues but, damn, RTP is a huge game changer, for sure. And if we add in all the improvements and additions already previously announced, the game is most likely gunna feel near brand new.

As for 2K13's Guitar Hero of a dunk contest, I still can't understand that move unless it's just an option but even so, WHY is that in such a dum of a bball game??

Josh Looman confirmed on his Twitter that if you retire/change to coach in Connected Careers as a real NFL player they stay in the game and are CPU controlled.

Next years game? There agreement is now up with the NFL, and 2k has been in talks with the NFL for almost 3 years now, thats why last year EA got a 1 year extension not a 5 year. If this game dosent sell, not to gamestop or walmart, but to people EA wont be making another NFL game anytime soon. After madden 10, 11 sold 18% less copies and 12 only rose 8% which is still 10% LESS than madden 10. Some stores dont even take reservations anymore bc the low sells numbers in some areas of the US. If it dosent at the very least, outsell madden 10 or +10 % more than M10 2k maybe making M14 and not EA bc this is BUSINESS and your not making more than a game that came out 3 years ago, then you want be doing it much longer.

^^^^^^ Really?? Wishful thinking

This is about selling games, and its business, and there business has been bad the last few years. No next gen madden has outsold M10, 3 years of talking with 2k, last years 1 year extension, so if this game dosent outsell a game 3 years old, where they still were using the dpad for dline among other things. If this game cant do it, and sell more copies than M10, i highly doubt the NFL to keep EA around, 3 years of talking to the NFL, 2k use to get turned away by them, but since M10 they've actually been talking to 2k. 3 years of talking, EA cant get there game to outsell there 3 year old game, and the NFL is a business and there deal with EA is up, so they cant put names on jerseys, logos on stadiums, or likeliness of players, so until a new deal is done they cant really do anything on the next game. NFL wants money, and EA isnt providing, and in business everyone is replaceable. Dont be surprised is this seriously happens. And is was leaked months back, 2k has been working on a football game, if they get the NFL liscense they game switch it to NFL names etc.

Madden is still making money and im sure the nfl is happy with their deal with ea sports? do you have any proof that 2k is working on a football game or are you just listening to internet rumors??
