Second Round halfway over! Stuck
Posted on January 31, 2013 at 12:30 PM.

Well we're halfway through the second round of our completely hypothetical college football 20 team playoff simulation. Here's the link for the past rounds and the setup for how this all works:

-Intro
-First Round

As you can tell, we're now halfway through the second round. Here's how the games shook out:

Michigan at Notre Dame

This was an old fashioned beatdown early, with Notre Dame controlling the line of scrimmage and moving the ball on Michigan while keeping the Michigan offense in check in a big way. Notre Dame carried a 13-0 lead into halftime while outgaining the Wolverines 200 - 24. Michigan was able to strike first in the second half on a long pass from Dernard Robinson to Roy Roundtree for a 77 yard touchdown. However, Notre Dame took back control on a 84 yard touchdown drive to push the lead to 20-7. Michigan added a score very late, Notre Dame rolls into the second round. 20-13 Irish

Oklahoma at Oregon

This was a fun game to watch. I was biased and rooting for my Sooners a bit, and they almost pulled the upset. Both teams traded scores until the third quarter. Things broke open for Oregon when tied 28 all, when the ball-hawking Oregon defense in real life picked off Landry Jones for a pick six in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma couldn't move the ball the next drive and punted it to Oregon. From there, Marcus Mariota took control and guided the Ducks to paydirt with just a minute to go. Oregon wins 42-28.

Boise State at Florida

Oops! They've done it again! Boise State took control of the game early from Florida, jumping out to a 14-0 lead after just half of the first quarter was through. Florida answered back in the early second quarter on a run from Jeff Driskel. Later in the second half, with a 28-21 lead, Boise State fumbled the ball on their own 20 yard line. Florida took advantage as Mike Gillislee ran 15 yards to tie the game 28-28 with four minutes remaining. Boise then went three and out and Florida took over. As time ticked away, the Gators moved the ball down the field but on third and thirteen from the Boise 44, a Jeff Driskel pass was picked off and returned to the Florida 22 yard line with just 18 seconds remaining. Boise kicked a field goal and the upset was complete. Boise State 31-28.

Louisville at Alabama

I'm not even going to give this game much time -- there's no reason to. Eddie Lacy rushed for 188 yards, AJ McCarron threw for 250 and Alabama built a 31-0 halftime lead. The Tide cruised into the quarterfinals with a crushing 41-10 defeat of Louisville. 41-10 Alabama
