NCAA Football 10 (Blog #4): New Mexico State vs. Ohio State Stuck
Posted on July 9, 2009 at 01:54 AM.
I have to share this story of my game against Ohio State, as I think it demonstrates how an A team will play against a D+ team.

It almost seemed like tOSU was completely unmotivated to play us in the middle of their Big 10 schedule. We jumped out on them with our offense and surprisingly took at 13-6 lead into the half thanks to several tOSU miscues. I'm not sure if there is a motivation attribute or something, but it definitely felt like they did not want to play us at all. I knew in the pit of my stomach what was coming in the second half.

It seems like we were bombarded by the much superior Ohio State team. Our first drive in the second half started off with an interception, which tOSU capitalized on to even the score. They then stopped us three and out and marched down the field again and scored. It was 20-13 tOSU before I could blink. Again three and out, and again we ended up giving up another TD. 27-13.

We then got a long pass play for a TD to pull back within a TD at 27-20. Ohio State was just rolling on offense though, as they went down the field to score again to make it 34-20 early in the fourth. I thought, "let's answer this, get a stop and tie this game". Whoops!

I threw a pick six the next play and then tOSU added a late TD to win the game 48-20. They outgained us 386 to 246. The difference in talent was 100% immediately obvious. Hence why I kinda felt that impending doom at the half when we were up.

BTW this was on Heisman at 7 minute quarters. You HAVE to play at least 7 minutes if you want somewhat realistic numbers.

Wow, nice narrating, you made me feel "in the story".

5 minutes is too short for me and stats don't turn out right. I've always played 7 or 8 minutes and been able to get the most realistic results.
About the game, that sounds pretty realistic, a smaller team getting an early lead but the better team running away with it in the end. Although it would be cool to see NMSU beat OSU haha.

Awesome post man! That's good to see tOSU come out in the second half and blow you out of the water. Good first half though. Sounded like a very realistic game!

Have you tried using the Sooners (not counting the Demo)?

say! chris....i just wanted to ask you is da lead block feature still in the game cause it wasn't in the demo?...thanks

btw..chris how did your the defense secondary feel to you when tosu drove down for a score? the reason why i ask is they seem like on the demo they dont swat the long or short ball like 09...

Were you able to run the ball? I'm having a tough time on the demo on hiesman.

Lead Block is in the demo, its now player lock. You just lock onto a blocker and away you go! I've been absolutely creaming defensive ends and LB's on toss plays with the player lock on a TE or FB. On one play, I blocked the only guy that could get Murray before he broke for a score, and Murray went 70 yards. I play on 6 minute Quarters and get good numbers, depending if I run the ball more or pass more. As for running in Heisman, you've gotta be good at it and use lead block a lot. Its harder running as Florida bc they are in the Shotgun, so you've gotta take your shots with passing. I've converted a few 3rd and 7's with draw plays if that is any indication.

NAH.....MAN PLEASE DONT TELL ME THAT! LOL... I LIKE IT THE WAY IT IS,SO TELL ME AFTER YOU PANCAKE A LINEMAN CAN YOU SWITCH BACK TO THE RB?

# 24 pengland007 @ Jul 10
No, sure can't switch back. I don't mind, I personally hated the switch back. No, you keep pancaking people if you are strong enough. I had Gresham take out a DE, a Corner, then the Safety. Much better than one and done. This will also help out in my favorite mode, 2v2. You'll get used to it and like it more

hey! thanks...btw let me ask you this how is the db's on '10? do they swat the long pass like '09?because on the demo i can't get them to react fast enuff to the medium passes on the demo...

Man your better than me, I am playing dynasty w/ Toledo default Heisman w/ 7 min quarters and was down like 28-0 in the first. I was getting shlacked and had to supersim it out, which seemed to work much better than the past. I am 1-4 right now, with my only win over FIU 36-31. I thought I would beat Ball St. after the FIU win, but then ended up getting beat really bad again. My D is horrible w/ Toledo.

It's actually a good sign that weaker teams get spanked as they do in real life by powerhouses. Ive been playing sports games since 1982 on my intellivision console..ive never gotten realistic stats on 5 minute qtrs, unless theres no defense and youre just lighting up the scoreboard..

# 28 blackscorpion11 @ Jul 10
How long did the 7 minute qtrs game take to complete?

# 29 boxboy99 @ Jul 11
I think I am getting about 130 total plays on 7 min which is perfect. My stats have looked beautiful. How many Heisman games have you played Chris? I am 2-5 with Toledo on 7 min Heisman right now. It seems like I am doing good in a game but soon as I make 1 mistake momentum takes over and they computer will roll me out of the game quick. For ex. I was playing NIU (even match up). It was close game in the second quarter I turned it over and all of a sudden the computer is unstoppable and I am down 35-10 within a few minutes. Same think happened against Colorado and Ball St. I was able to shut the Buffs out the second half but gave up 35 in the first half. I waxed Western and didn't turnover the ball a single time that game. (Only ended up winning by 7 cause they rolled by second team). I find it tough to generate Turnovers on Heisman but it is possible. I am adjusting gameplans a lot now. I always turn on jump the snap. When they get in the read zone I go all in. On offense I feel like Frye when he was a Brown, I want to hold the ball because I don't want to make that costly mistake that starts the snowball momentum. I run a lot and punt then pick my shots to go deep. Supersim has worked nice when I did find my self blownout, it seems they have tweaked it. I don't see the crazy amount of turnovers that it seemed to yield in the past. I did totally analyize it but seemed not to mess up my play counts or score either.

I've switched back and forth between Heisman and AA and i can't tell which one I prefer. Strangely, most of my Heisman games are high scoring. The defense seems to be more aggressive allowing me to make more big plays. On the other hand, every time a make a big play the cpu responds with a big play or one of those famous 4 play drives that take a minute off the clock. Case in point. I'm LSU playing at Clemson. I return a fumble for a TD, the cpu returns a fumble for a TD. I go up 10 at half and I know the cpu will do something to catch up. I receive the kick off and my first play from scrimmage I fumble and the cpu scores in 3 plays. Next kickoff I return for a TD. I kick off, the cpu returns it to the 5 and score on the next play. What was a good defensive game 17-7 at half ended up with me winning 51-49. All of the sudden we couldn't stop each other and it became a defeneless shoot out.
