Just one more quick note on my blog, we will be posting the nominees and then will be allowing the voting to begin for the end of the year awards later today!
A few notes to help you along:
A few notes to help you along:
- Yes, only one vote per person you fanboys.
- No, you won't have a clue who is winning thanks to us making the results private until the winners are revealed.
- Yes, I firmly think the categories and nominees we have this year will create some interesting possibilities as far as results

It certainly appears as if Peter Moore knows what he is talking about after all. Gamers want easier to understand games with simpler controls but more accurate physics. In my very unscientific blog comments section, that seems to be the prevailing notion nowadays. Most would prefer companies spend less time on trying to give "total control" to players with insane button combos.
Instead, most of the gamers who commented would instead rather have the development teams work ... Read More

I just browsed an excellent post in the MaddenMania forums which basically compares how NCAA Football 09 ranks the teams compared to the real polls given the same results. Check out the results in the thread...the results could surprise you (but probably won't):

It's time for me to provide another thought experiment in this blog. Start thinking about this question now, before I you dive into the rest of this blog: what does a game being realistic entail to you?
Now let's think about this together. The very thing about sports is that the unpredictable tends to happen more often than not. So what would a game being realistic mean?
It would mean things that many consider unrealistic nowadays such as crazy stats or crazy team accomplishments ... Read More

No really, think about it. A high powered offensive game where each game is a back and forth battle with ridiculous offensive scores. Sounds like the Big XII doesn’t it?
While I do agree that the game was geared a bit too heavy towards the offense — especially when it was released in July — this season has been another prime example how sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction.
If a gamer got a 61-41 final score in NCAA Football 09, most likely the gamer would’ve screamed ... Read More

Sitting around a big dinner table with friends and family enjoying a big feast is what Thanksgiving is all about. In my family, we have a tradition of saying what we are thankful for before we dig in. Here are a few things that I am thankful for sports-gaming wise in 2008:
-MLB '08: The Show redeemed my love for America's pastime. Thanks to The Show, I am a baseball nut again. Spring can't come soon enough and for that, I am thankful.
-EA is not going to buy Take Two ... Read More

One comment I see around the community is how unimportant review scores are. Some people say you are just splitting hairs when you decide between, say, a 7.5 or an 8.
However, from the conversations I have personally had with the guys who are making the games, review scores actually do mean quite a bit to many of them. Just as with any well-ran sports team, a development team typically has a few goals they would love to achieve each year and one of those goals is usually to receive ... Read More

So OS...who is it going to be in the Big XII South? I know we have a ton of lively discussion on the forums about this, but I want to know the pulse of my blog readers! Texas? OU? Tech?
My take? All 3 have a decent argument...honestly none are better than the others and if you think so, you are a fan of said team or you are ignoring reality. If OU was in either Tech's or Texas' position, I'd be screaming trying to state my team's case as well.
In the end, we are going ... Read More

That's right, we're going to be passing out awards to which games were the best of the best in the sports genre this year. I'm not allowing myself to disclose which categories we will have (mostly because we haven't finalized a list yet) but I will say that 'Game of the Year' will most certainly be one award handed out.
Although my vote means very little to the big scheme of who wins the 'Game of the Year' award, I am pretty confident I know which game is going to be my pick. Going ... Read More

Operation Sports visitors, you shocked me yesterday. I fully expected the tried and true, gameplay conquers all argument out of your mouths in my unscientific poll.
Instead, by and large in the (very) limited sample I received, you overwhelmingly said awesome presentation with decent gameplay is a more preferable option than to perfect gameplay and bad presentation.
I do not want to buck the old trend too far, gameplay is still the most important fundamental aspect of ... Read More

I posted a poll question on this not long ago, but I want to revisit it in the form of a blog.
So the question, "If you could choose just one, which of these football games would you buy?"
Assume a few things: both games feature the exact same selection of modes and features, it's just the gameplay and presentation which are different.
A)Game A is a game which features the best presentation yet in a sports game to date which would fool even the most skilled ... Read More

Seriously, why do I even continue to cover sports games?
By and large, they suck at creating 'it'. They definitely don't have 'it' figured out. Other developers in other genres get 'it' and then translate 'it' onto the screen for us to enjoy 'it'. What is 'it' you ask?
'It' is the simple fact that video games are meant to be an experience that resembles something so believable that the player willfully suspends himself into the game and becomes a part of it. When a ... Read More

This latest rumor from Smashpad about EA Sports is interesting. Basically, EA would offer consumers a special deal to reward brand loyalty with up to a 33% discount per game title purchased in a program Smashpad is reportedly calling "EA Sports Season Pass". The caveat? It would be available in GameStop's only with a $20 entry tag.
While the program sounds cool, this is nothing but a rumor. It would be cool to see it happen, and would definitely be a brainchild of ... Read More

Basically, what you see with the demo is very close to what you get in the final product. So, instead of babbling on about every possible knook and cranny, I'm going to give a basic overview of my thoughts and then take some questions. Check out the demo impressions thread at OS at the following link to get a variety of impressions on the gameplay from a ton of OS users:
