Last week, I sat down with Phil Frazier, a long-time producer at EA Sports, and checked out the latest Madden 10 build. While I did not get a chance to grab the controller and start dissecting the game myself, Phil Frazier did demo many of the new on-the-field Madden 10 features for me.

However, before getting to those features, I must mention that on Monday I wrote that the unofficial theme for NCAA Football 10 will be customization. Well, when it comes to Madden 10 I believe the theme will be "immersion." From the first moment you put the game in your console to the moment you take the field, immersion will be the goal.

Last week, I had a chance to sit down with EA Sports and view the current build of NCAA Football 10. I also got a walkthrough of some of the new aspects of the game.

Based upon the walkthrough, it seems like customization is the name of the game with NCAA Football 10. Sure, the developers also want to fix some of the issues NCAA 09 had and improve the game on the field, but the theme of customization still stuck out most to me.

Operation Sports recently got a chance to sit down and talk with some of the newly announced NCAA cover athletes about the NFL Draft, video games and what it is like to see their likenesses on the cover of a video game.

It took a month, but I finally put down the PS3 controller and gave The Show a break to try out the new Ultimate Team downloadable expansion for FIFA 09.

The expansion does a great job of breathing some life into a game that’s almost six months old at this point – creating a completely different way to enjoy the same on the pitch action, while adding some new wrinkles and challenges to team building.

But with that said, if you aren’t a FIFA fanatic who was likely to play FIFA for another few months anyway, the expansion might not be for you.

March 3, 2009 was supposed to be a day of triumph for 2K Sports. The final chapter in a three-year development cycle that started with MLB 2K7.

Each new edition was to be another layer of bricks built upon the initial foundation, remaking the baseball video-game genre as we knew it. MLB 2K9 was to be the shining star at the top of a glorious skyscraper of baseball awesomeness.

As they say, "the best laid plans of mice and men."

One of the more entertaining things to do in FIFA 09 is take control of a team in a second (or lower) division and try to get it promoted to the top-flight league.

It will take at least a couple of seasons to get the team -- not only in a position to contend for promotion -- but to also be talented enough to avoid demotion after starting to play with the big boys.

To help in your endeavor, below are nine young players you can go out and sign to build a team around. With some tender love and care –- and playing time –- all of these players have the potential to be on your team from start to finish and still be contributors when you are competing for the top division’s hardware.

Are you one of the many thousands of NCAA gamers who can't seem to stop the AI offense no matter what the circumstances? Our very own Executive Editor Dave Branda might have discovered a way to possibly get a few stops against the AI offense. Check out his article, Man-to-Man Coverage The Key to Stopping the AI QB in NCAA 09.

"After doing some some reading in the Operation Sports and MaddenMania forums recently, I had a bit of an epiphany. Thanks in part to my revelation, my Michigan defense "clicked" into place and I absolutely demolished a computer controlled Wisconsin at The Big House, something which was not happening up until that time."

Sometimes one of the hardest parts of getting your hands on NCAA Football is picking the playbook that is right for your style of play. Picking a playbook is hard enough in Madden with less than 40 options, let alone more than 100.

Over the next few days Operation Sports will be taking the time to link to the playbooks EA Sports was kind enough to provide PDFs of on their web site, as well as tell you what formations are included in each playbook. Hopefully this will help you narrow them down to a workable amount, so you can then nose through and find the perfect playbook for your game.

Today we'll be doing Ohio to Wyoming. Please note all offensive playbooks include a goalline and a hail mary formation.

Dave Branda has just posted our first look of FIFA Soccer 09. Check out the article for several new details on this year's EA Sports soccer game.

Quote:
"One big addition to FIFA 09 is a robust tactics system. Players are able to edit their teams strategy for defense, attack, and goal scoring methods. The goal of this new system is to make each match unique from any match played before, while also creating the ebb and flow, give and take of a real soccer match."

The final inductee to be recognized as a sports video games hall of famer in the summer of 08 class is the Madden NFL Football series, which has spanned over two decades. Be sure to check out the induction article for the Madden NFL Football series.
Quote:
"Madden, on the other hand, is really being recognized for its position in the sports gaming industry for the past 20 years. In a lot of ways the title is the bellwether for the industry as a whole, and any Hall of Fame class would be incomplete in my mind without the longest running and best selling sports franchise ever."

While FIFA 08's manager mode was good, it could still have used quite a few additions. Operation Sports' Dave Branda checks in today with an updated version of what he'd like to see added to the FIFA manager mode to make it great. Check out his article, Taking a Good manager Mode and Making it Great.

"Loans are another area that needs to be rehashed. In theory it works – you send your players to other clubs, retain their rights but they play for the other club who also pays their salary.Where this is most useful is taking your younger players and farming them out to clubs in the lower leagues so they can play and get experience."
